Worth getting this if you are a Roses fan and only have the albums on CD as this has got early stuff eg Sally Cinnamon and B sides, and not to mention Fools Gold.

The title's a bit of a misnomer. The Complete Stone Roses concentrates on the bating and's first album, compiling the A- and B-sides of the group's hits from "Elephant Stone" to "One Love." In addition to the familiar material, the disc includes rare, early singles like "So Young" and "Sally Cinnamon" for the first time on compact disc, giving their classic material some context. The loud guitars of "So Young" are clearly the work of a hesitant band, while "Sally Cinnamon" is the first indication of John Squire's gift for ringing, melodic guitar hooks. However, their inclusion -- as well as the appearance of the B-sides, which lack the consistent brilliance of "I Wanna Be Adored," "She Bangs the Drums," "Elephant Stone," "Waterfall," etc. -- make The Complete Stone Roses a flawed introduction to the band. Nevertheless, there's a fair amount of classic pop here, and the rarities are necessary for dedicated fans.

1. So Young (3:30)
2. Tell Me (3:50)
3. Sally Cinnamon (2:50)
4. Here It Comes (2:40)
5. All Across the Sands (2:40)
6. Elephant Stone (3:00)
7. Full Fathom Five (3:18)
8. Hardest Thing in the World (2:39)
9. Made of Stone (4:11)
10. Going Down (2:46)
11. She Bangs the Drums (3:42)
12. Mersey Paradise (2:44)
13. Standing Here (5:05)
14. I Wanna Be Adored (3:28)
15. Waterfall (3:36)
16. I Am the Resurrection (3:41)
17. Where Angels Play (4:15)
18. Fools Gold (4:15)
19. What the World Is Waiting For (3:55)
20. Something Burning (3:37)
21. One Love (3:40)

Quality Album, -

Just like Oasis's early years, you could argue that the Stone Roses' B sides and non-album singles were just as good as the album. And given the acclaim the debut album got, that's pretty high praise for this collection.

Going down. Standing Here, mersey paradise, what the world is waiting for (The original 'A' side to Fools gold 12"). Beautiful, simple songs that remind you of the Summer of Love and how it felt like the Roses just had songs bursting out of them before it all went pear shaped in the years between TSR and second coming.

They should have put the original sally cinnamon trio on though IMHO :-)

thanks very much for posting this i already ordered mine:)

The only criticism i can make is that the label had the audacity to include a short version of 'i am the resurrection' - CRIMINALS

Nothing like Oasis early years, only similarity is they both come from Manchester, Oasis differ in the fact they were always "Dad Rock"

Oasis sounded worse the more drugs they took, whereas The Stone Roses sound better the more drugs the listener takes...

Actually Oasis' early stuff was made while they were off their heads, not vice versa...

There's more to my music taste than shoegaze :-D There again puzzlingly there seemed to be more than a few Oasis fans that were "mad for it" when I saw The Verve live, that didn't seem to "get" anything pre "Urban Hymns", guess Oasis fans cannot handle anything more than MOR!

Saw Verve at Haigh Hall, supported by John Martyn
Never have I seen a support act get such foul abuse from the audience. Was very odd and I guess the vast majority of the crowd thought "Urban Hymns" was The Verves first album. Talk about "not getting it" - poor John Martyn gave up after about 5 songs of being constantly jeered and booed. Still, Beck (at the same gig) went down very well.

Well, there are "Verve" fans and there are "The Verve" fans. at least "Verve" fans have ]"The Black Ships" project to look forward to, which without Ashcroft will allow once again Nick McCabes' Guitar to ebb and flow like it should.

Coooooolio
Yeah Verve and The Verve are both excellent but The Verve fans pobably won't like Verve if they like The Verve because of BSS etc (all makes sense to me that sentence LOL)
Turned into a proper "northern music" chinwag thread

This + 1st album are each £3 in Fopp - 1st LP has the 8m+ Resurrection. In those light card eco pack things. Nice cheapness to post on fleabay. 2 thumbs up. They're OK, but they are no Nazareth.

Not only that, but a version with a drum machine, no less!! Substitute the best drummer of all time with a casio = genius!!

Quality album but i have to agree that including the edit of I Am The Resurrection is criminal! Worth a £5 to get the full album version grooves-inc.co.uk/sto…GBP

Does this thread have to dissolve into a band slating mire of pus? Oasis, The Verve, Stone Roses are all good bands who have (whether you like it or not) provided us with some era defining tracks

Superb tunes --Mersey Paradise is a beaut .
Heat added

ordered, thanks Andy, have already got lots of SR but son keeps pinching them ..... will keep this in the car (only safe place)

Still waiting for it to be delivered .....
