I'm not usually a fan of these £2.99 DVD deals but felt this was an exception.

Can't comment on the newer version but this is a classic. Rotten Tomatoes gives it 100%. It was on Channel 4 on Sunday and I caught it then, but if you haven't seen it, this is money well spent.

"Outstanding! Bursts With Heart-Stopping Excitement!" -Leonard Maltin.

An all-star cast, including Oscar-winners Walter Matthau and Martin Balsam teams up with Robert Shaw to deliver "sure-fire entertainment [that's] gripping and exciting from beginning to end" (The Hollywood Reporter). Based on the sizzling best-seller by John Godey, this pulse-pounding picture is guaranteed to give you the ride of your life!

Somewhere underground, in New York's subway system, just outside the Pelham Station, a gang of armed men hijack a train, threatening to kill one hostage per minute unless their demands are met. Forced to stall these unknown assailants until a ransom is delivered or a rescue is made, transit chief Lt. Garber (Matthau) must ad-lib, bully, con and shrewdly outmaneuver one of the craftiest and cruelest villains (Shaw) in a battle of wits that will either end heroically or tragically. From the minute you board this train until its exhilarating climax, you will be taken by "plenty of surprises and lots of nail-biting action" (Blockbuster Movie Guide)!

Not forgetting Quidco at 4% (12p).

Hi, could you advise when & what channel please? Had a look thru the TV schedules & can't find it. One I've never seen, unfortunately saw the mostly-OKish remake first which will probably spoil my viewing of this.

Asda have it for £3 btw if anyone want to pick it up in-store.

Not on the Freeview channels - must be on Sky Movies or else another bullsh*t post! :whistling:

the new one is pretty unclimatic to say the least. you'll be left asking "is that it?". Head good things about this version though!

cant see it on today but did a search and a version is on true movies monday at 11pm.sky channel 321 if that helps anyone

Good deal...heat added...thanks op.

This version was on Five a couple of Saturdays back, I recorded it and watched it last night, good watchable movie with a nice ending.

Not sure why True Movies is showing the 1998 version on Monday as the event is purely fiction

I watched this after I seen the Travolta/Washington version. Of course I wasn't expecting a lot of modern action and tension, but I was hardly expecting this to be slow, dull and have absolutely no thrills at all. Good deal. But awful film.

I really enjoyed the original, haven't seen the new one yet. Will set the media centre to record the 1998 one though

EDIT: my tv listings show True movies as showing 'Unlikely Suspects' at 11pm on Monday?

It's on the Zing Zing TV Listings - zingzing.co.uk

I guess it was because i watched it in the wrong order (new before original) but i thought the new one was tonnes better - definately worth a watch!

Fantastic film, but beware that this DVD is Non-Anamorphic.

I was hoping they'd release a special edition to go with the recent remake, but it doesn't seem to be on the studio's schedules.

Robert Shaw was a brilliant actor shame he didn't do more films as he devoted a lot of time to writing. Looking forward to seeing the new version though. He's one of the few actors where I will watch a film purely because he is in it. I suppose my favourite Robert Shaw movie is Battle of the Bulge his performance in that is 100% convincing and makes all the other performances look a bit weak except for the excellent Telly Savalas.
