It's a brand new 4K restoration using the original camera negative (for the first time), the quality of which dramatically improves upon any previous home format release. It was approved by Carpenter and his D.o.P. Dean Cundey. It's limited in numbers and it's a VERY popular movie, so fans are desperate to get their hands on it. And it comes in special packaging with collectables (as detailed on the Zavvi link). The release day price of most bog standard blu-rays on Amazon is £14.99, so this is an absolute bargain.

Got the steelbook from Arrow on order so not so sad I missed this

Damn, missed it !

Have some heat anyway.

Assume they’re releasing a 4K version of it soon then

Probably, at a lower price without all the clutter (who has storage space for all the extras, it`s bad enough just with the blue rays and dvds)

Do you mean a UHD release? Highly unlikely. ARROW don't release that format yet. A 4K restoration on Blu-ray is the best you're gonna get for quite some time.

Collectors have the storage space. They wouldn't be able to collect much if they didn't.

And some films are worth moving other other stuff out of the way for

Well I don`t. And also I think a film should stand on its own. Of course, it`s intersting to learn from the extra features on the disk how it was made etc (eg dangerous days from Bladerunner) but the rest to me is meaningless. A metal box? and some photos etc` The fresh 4K recording may be worthwhile, provided they don`t mess around with it too much. But eventually that should come out as a separate issue.
Just mt ten cents, thanks for your posting, but it`s not for me

Glad I was able to pick this up, finally time to ditch my original Region A bare bones edition

This release isn't much wider than two BD cases, as it's a normal Amaray, within a sturdy box, a book and a few art-cards and poster. It's not going to need a shelf of its own.

The Amaray version will be along shortly.

Looks like someone at Arrow told some Swedes (Yes I know, Norwegian. It's a "The Thing" in-joke) they would be moving into 4K UHD discs next year.

videomagasinet.no/art…18/

Now that would get me to buy into UHD.
