Sounds good to me. Cheers to the OP.

So how does it actually get delivered?

Original Poster

My housemate used to get it. It is not by Royal Mail. Think they have special delivery people whose sole purpose is to deliver the Times to subscribers. Always turned up before 7am without fail.

Cover Price: £5.50 | Frequency: 52 issues per year

Makes me think you get them in a bundle once a week!

According to the advert in the Times, the offer is subject to a min 48 week term and is delivered through an external company/local shop....Unless like me you live within the M25 and its a different offer, delivered by Times contractors and charged at full cover price, first month free but with no minimum term.

There is no way they would get away with that. The 52 issues per year obviously refers to the Sunday Times.

The subscription is monthly.

As said, the offer is MONTHLY, and costs £22. This is not an offer direct from The Times but through a subscription company.

Too much effort to cancel a direct debit? For a net profit of £3 and a month's free Times?

Each to their own. Just because you are lazy doesn't make this deal cold!! Seriously, some people.

just cancel the DD straight after first payment has been done. Takes all of a minute online.

still too much hassle imho on the off chance the voucher turns up in the initial month.

I don't think it matters. You will get the voucher regardless of whether you are still subscribing. It is a new subscriber incentive.

can we cancel at the end of the month?

I am cancelling my direct debit as soon as the £22 goes out.

I've done this before with the times and they sent vouchers to redeem in the newsagents. Last time it was a month of vouchers dated to use one a day or if you have your papers delivered or a nice newsagent they will take them in one lump sum

I would be very surprised if this is the case as it explicitly says...

"Delivered directly to your door FREE of charge".

It involves calling your bank, & talking to some dude from India at a call centre who you cant' understand. I'm not lazy, I just feel this deal is not all you are cracking it up to be. Its not a free months sub as you have to outlay the £22 and then hope there is something you wish to buy at M&S with the voucher.

I can find more profitable ways of using my time than having to go to my local M&S.

Learn to use online banking..

it takes ONE click to cancel a direct debit!!

HEAT + REP

seems good, am tempted.

i bet that somehow, rupert murdoch's minions will ensure that you can't cancel the Dir.Debit in time and that you never get the £25.00 voucher.

Rupert Murdoch : "mwhahahaha"

lol @ people who dont read the times doing this on the off chance that they will make £6

so can it be cancelled after a month. i cant find where it says so explicitly
regards
meera

On another note, if you are a student you can get the times for £30 for three months if you ring up.

lol handbags at dawn! :w00t:

I think the point is that most people who don't like phoning India to do their banking either change banks or sign up to online banking...therefore your issue with phoning india to cancel a direct debit isn't an issue for many people.

Don't take the bait people, he is just winding you up, no one is that thick.
and if he did vote cold then surley any attempt to correct such a obscure way of thinking is only folly.

Hi

I have the Sunday Times delivered and it is placed outside your front door packaged in a Times plastic bag. This means it is totally weather proof and always arrives before 7am. They are delivered by employed courier services and you receive each daily paper each morning.

I saw this offer last week in the Sunday paper, but on closer inspection, you are signing to a 12 month contract to receive the £25 M&S voucher.

If you cancel your DD with The Times they will call you on the phone to make payment over the phone and if they cant reach you...you will receive an invoice for papers that have been delivered. If you then still dont pay....you get taken to court.

Not worth it IMO.

Nowhere on the website does it say this is a 12 month thing. This is done through a subscription agency and not The Times direct. This offer is not the same as the one in the paper.

Yeah - Pity on the guy other side. Talking to someone can't speak proper english. Also would be strange for him to understand why this guy is cancelling news paper subscription in just a single day.

Does anyone know if by cancelling the direct debit and them not being able to take payment would affect your credit score?

7.If you pay for your subscription by Direct Debit you are automatically protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee. A copy of this should be sent to you by the publisher of the magazine/s you have selected along with the details of the date of the first direct debit from your account and the frequency and amount of subsequent payments. You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by simply contacting your bank and/or the publisher.
