Ok so this may not be a cheap bargin BUT with only 500 been minted and the UK's first five once gold coin and off the back of London 2012 this has to be more of an investment for 20years time.

Investment for the future?

There is no point in planning for the future - once the Government realise that its an investment they will tax it to maket worthless
Can I have two please?
How many times on the television antiques programs do you see valuations made on the gold content only? The current value of these coins on that basis is about £5100, though you do get a "superb wood-veneer display case" with the coin.

Not voting as I'm no fortune teller.

Sarcasm? ... Gold is just over £1,000 per oz, so the gold value is just over £5,000. Wouldn't buy this if it was BOGOF
my iPad did a security alert on the linked web site ?

No, thats current market price per oz £1028.56 per oz.
Would probably be cheaper to win a real gold medal.
you woul be mad to scrap this amazing coin only 500 available thats like saying the penny stamp is no good but look how much that's worth.

IMO I would get all available melt and just keep one !!!!
if u could have all 500 and make it just one in the world wow
dreaming again in Patto land
sorry for the waffle been watching too much the Ricky vervais show
Buy sovereigns. They are technically legal tender, so no capital gains if/when they appreciate and no VAT. There is no VAT on gold bullion or bullion coins anyway, but the CGT exemption is only on British sovereigns. And the mark-up over bullion price won't be as steep as this.
Bought 50. Cheers op, who needs a house anyway when I have all this gold.

and you try selling gold for $1000 an ounce. You'd do well to get $500 an ounce. Physical Gold is a daft investment for the average joe as better to stick it in a gold fund.

925 Silver plated with Gold - sorry
Someone bought 600 of these about 2 months ago. Odd, as they each have "Made In China" stamped around their rim. Hmm, I wonder if they've been done??

The market is at $1600, not $1000. So about £1000, and you can get very near that when selling, certainly not knocked down to half. Naturally you wouldn't go to one of those market stalls that advertise they buy gold.Maybe you are confused about gold jewelery, which is never pure gold (too soft and wears too quickly) but an alloy with copper and silver and other metals. 9 carat is just better than a third gold and 18 carat is three quarters gold. Selling an ounce of carat gold will of course get you less than an ounce of pure. I don't know if this coin is completely pure or not. Sovereigns and some other gold coins have a touch of copper to make them wear better.

Mohammed Ali was upset too (when he was still Cassius Clay). He threw his in the river.
hattongardenmetals.com are paying £1028.54 for Krugerrands today. That's a one ounce gold coin. It actually weighs more than an ounce, but has an ounce of gold in it, with some other metals to make it more durable. Gold is weighed in troy ounces, which are heavier than the avoirdupois ones you normally use (used to use).
