HEAT !

Think I paid about £20 a season - £45 for the lot is amazing.
Shame it won't ever come onto blu-ray

Ordered this the other day for the same price on Amazon, amazing series. Well worth £45. Hot.

How so?

Hot. Fantastic TV show. Even the Mrs. loved it. Probably 2nd only to the West Wing (which I didn't think I'd like either - but was won over 3 episodes in!).

If you've been thinking about this but aren't sure ... just buy it - you won't be disappointed

This and the west wing are two of the best box-sets ever put together

Best TV program ever. Shades the Soprano's for me and two seasons into the Shield the Wire has it. West Wing next on the list

Same price on play.com, and 4p cheaper at Zavvi.

Heat added though

Hot deal!!! Might have to finally buy this!!!!

its £49.95 at zavvi.

Afaik The Wire was actually shot on 35mm film, just like most of HBO' other great shows, but David Simon decided that he wanted to master it in 4:3 as he felt it would give it a more gritty realism. So if HBO ever decide that it is worth their while and David Simon gives his consent, The Wire could one day be remastered in HD and get a Blu-Ray release just like The Sopranos has.

Nope, it was shot in 4:3.

i say it every time - best series ever! word!!

I've seen the first 4 episodes of season 1 and so far I'm not believing the hype. I'll persevere and continue watching the rest of the season but it's got a lot of work to do to win me over. Plus I have to keep subtitles on because I can barely understand the Baltimore accent -Po-lease?!

Don't let the accents put you off..you'll develop an ear for it. And stick with the series because although the pay-offs are slow in coming, they're worth the wait.

It you enjoy gritty dramas with superb acting like this and the Sopranos, watch Brotherhood. You will not be disappointed. Like the Wire, The Shield, Sopranos and Deadwood, it is among my favorite shows of all time, in a completely different league to your typical Cold Case, NCIS type drivel. It was an award winning, which is understandable when watching it, but I read that the marketing for this show was terrible, which was the reason for the low ratings ratings, and ultimately the axe, which was the reason for the rushed third and final season. There are very few programmes that give me that empty sick feeling when they come to an end, but I definitely felt that way when I found out they were canceling this show.

The Wire has a lot to live up to from it's own word of mouth reputation (I hate to use the word hype because that implies that it is somehow false or manufactured) and I was the same as you (including the subtitles for the first few episodes) but I stuck with it and it was really worth while giving it the time...

Probably the best cop show you'll ever watch. McNulty a Yorkshireman went to Eton and Stringer Bell is from Hackney! What great acting. Voted Hot.

now £59.
