It has the same characters does it not? Everyone's chasing Ciri. It's more similar to the series than it is dissimilar. At the very least he will get to know the charecters seeing as the TV series does a truly awful job of explaining who anyone is.

Ignore him, we knew what you meant. Defo buy the games, it's arguably one of the best games of all time. Make sure you get a couple of the mods to improve the quality of life, the auto oil for your sword one i would recommend. You'll get to learn alot more about the lore through the game then you will through the TV series.

As the Netflix production is planned to run for (at least) seven seasons, you would not expect everything to be revealed in the first eight episodes.

Oh yes, that's exactly what I suggested it should have done.

Thank goodness you are not running the show then.
This is a god damm MEGA bargain for how much content u get.
Best game ever. Best DLC ever (Blood and Wine). Best £10.50 you will ever spend.
It might be worth noting it is a GOG key not a steam key to save confusion.

I have the base game on Steam and was after the DLC but that is GOG also.

Worth noting, though, the easy setting is genuinely easy enough that wimps like me still get to experience the story. I rarely complete games, but this made the list because it didn’t stress me out too much.

i played it on easy for a bit but with the full health when meditating and just slashing with your sword made it quite boring. with the higher settings i struggled too but kept digging in i must've died a lot of times but learning how to time your attacks and using the right oils on your swords and using the alchemy option made me feel like a witcher myself ... postman by day , witcher by night
Season 1 went by too quickly. Potentially 3 seasons worth of material crammed into 1.

Definately not a Games Of Thrones beater, which I hoped it would be

Is it worth playing the older games in order or can you enjoy this as a standalone?

It's not the same sort of thing as Game of Thrones. It's much heavier on the fantasy and is about someone who is morally ambiguous dealing with messed up or tough ethical situations whilst killing lots of people and monsters.

The series has a lot of issues, I think a lot of them are down to inexperienced writers and producers. The choice to have three different timelines going on at once was poor (shows really need to stop doing this), the dialogue is full of distracting anachronisms ("off the grid" in a medieval fantasy?) and there are some truly terrible performances (had Triss' actress even acted before?).

It's pretty much carried by the lore and the great performance from Cavil

There's still a bunch of fantasy series being produced, all trying to get the GoT audience:

The Wheel of Time (praying this is good, it's one of best fantasy series of all time, a larger scale LOTR)
LOTR (Amazon pumping huge amounts of cash into this)
Night Watch (based off of the Discworld novels, the casting and description of the characters does not inspire any confidence in this being even passable)
Kingkiller Chronicles (in development hell, known for having an infuratingly perfect protagonist and a really odd brand of feminism)

Oooh thanks. Some Gems to look forward to.

I think the time line issue was because of Ciri. Felt the producers found their perfect person to play her, and knew she'd be too old and tall, if they waited until season 2 to introduce her.

Also really ruined the mystery of who "the girl in the woods" was
Also worth saying I think if you have xbox gold you can get it for the same price on the store

Very very much enjoyable as standalone. Avoid Witcher 1 (just YouTube the story) Witcher 2 may be worth a go (I’ve just started it)

I did try the witcher 1 once upon a time but found it a bit too clunky compared to the likes of dragon age origins.
Just bought on Steam.. worth every penny 😃

At least the producer has admitted the timeline was an issue in S1 and supposedly will be better in S2, but that is yet to be proven obviously. I think the actor/actress choices were pretty good for the most part.

I just dislike some of the choices the writers made. People have said the confusing timelines means you have to pay more attention rather than being hand-held through the plot yet they are constantly crudely going on about destiny in every single episode, its a bit too on the nose imo.
Carnival Row is a decent watch, for any fantasy lovers. It's on Amazon Prime.

Has my boy Orlando Bloom in it

It would have helped if it had been made clear there were different periods of time occuring given the actors don't visibly age.

I went into the show blind and it took a while to register that I was definitely watching events out of order. Only through Google did I discover some events were decades apart.

Good job it had boobs to keep me interested.
Wish I could buy it a second time and experience it for the first time all over again
