"There's no place like home..." Entirely remastered, the colorful characters and unforgettable songs of Oz come alive as never before. This magical cinematic event finds Kansas farm girl Judy Garland ("A Star is Born," "Meet Me in St. Louis") caught in a tornado and magically transported to the Land of Oz. Needing help to return home, she is told to follow the Yellow Brick Road and find the powerful Wizard (Frank Morgan). On her perilous journey, she is befriended by the Scarecrow (Ray Bolger), the Tin Man (Jack Haley), and the Cowardly Lion (Bert Lahr) who help her battle the Wicked Witch of the West (Margaret Hamilton) and her flying monkeys. Based on the classic book by Frank L. Baum, "The Wizard of Oz" is a dazzling motion picture achievement, featuring unforgettable songs (including Oscar-winner "Over the Rainbow"), scenery, and costumes. The film had 5 Academy Award nominations, and Garland was awarded a special Oscar for her outstanding performance.

Not great. Basically a good upscale but not worth the price to be honest.

It’s not an upscale. It’s taken from an 8K scan of the original negatives. Do you know what upscaling means?

“Even the improved 75th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray, which made use of a then-new 8K master of the original Technicolor camera negative — the same master used for this 4K release, incidentally — showed signs of contrast boosting which likewise yielded over-saturated colors. This new 4K disc wipes all of those problems completely off the map, revealing a truly natural and film-like image that easily stands as Oz’s strongest appearance on home video to date”.

How good will the (modified?) picture on an 81 year old movie actually be

Very good:

“All told, this is easily one of the best-looking 4K catalog titles to date, standing toe-to-toe with last month’s release of The Shining...if not beating it by a slim margin.”

No doubt there will still be casualties of the film industry like Judy Garland, But anywhere where capitalism is king, there will always be people being exploited.

It doesn't matter how old the film is. The medium is film and it's far higher resolution than 4K.
Original Film is much higer dev than 4K........even though to be honest the film is very poor in my opinion.

It seems your opinion is very much in the minority, and of course you're entitled to have a minority opinion!

This gets 8.5 on metacritic.
