Well this has 4 year warranty and is a reputable seller. I don't know how much the seller matters on here when you see eBay sellers and companies like Wonda mobile get scorching hot. The reason this is cold is because most people don't know what the value of the product actually is and are voting on a whim because they would never spend this much on a laptop which is irrelevant.

chris.aston-roebuck

I never said it was up to me. My beef is when people downvote a product because they don’t like it... and to your other point, I agree about the retailer, but I would have thought that was obvious. All too often do we see on here people vote cold because they think £2K for a laptop is expensive. That’s not how this is supposed to work. You don’t need to reply I’m done.

Dejaque

I mean I literally said in the comment above some people probably do, but OK. If dodgy Dave down the street is selling this £100 cheaper, making it the best price. Does that make it a deal? Price is an important factor, but the reputation of the seller + warranty are also big factors. My point: there are more factors than price alone when it comes to making something deal. People should vote however they want. It's not up to you what people should factor into their voting decision.

chris.aston-roebuck

Disagree... people down voting because they don’t like Apple is common place and goes against the whole ethos of this group. The very fact that this is a good price means it’s a deal, and heat should be added to increase awareness. You should not vote cold simply because you don’t like a brand, that’s not the idea. If you don’t like Apple... move on

Dejaque

I was, but people don't just vote on whether something is cheapest, it's whether they think it's a good deal overall. And for other reasons too, maybe they don't like or trust the seller, maybe they don't like the brands business practices. It is what it is.

I know I'm a bit late but has anyone had a good experience with edustore? Do you guys recommend me purchase from them?

kommy

this is now back live so i assume they've restocked and worked out what they have left. so hopefully it's plain sailing for any who now order but there has been some pushback on EDUSTORE on their recent other mac deals. but like i said, mine arrived and i assume/hope they've ironed out whatever issues they had.

kommy

honestly mate mine was a different mac and situation and i complained a lot so mine isn’t the standard case. you’re best calling

qamarzk

When did you order it and how long until it arrived? Did you get any updates of delivery?

qamarzk

Yes I rang them and they checked my order number. Said they were backlogged and awaiting stick from Apple.

Just been on Apple chat. They no longer do 50% off AppleCare+, only 20%. So doesn’t matter if you get at point of sale or later within the 60 days

nickwellings

I’m fairly certain this changed in the last 6 months or so. It used to be 50% off when buying at the same time as the Mac or 20% off buying it separately. It’s now 20% off regardless of when it’s bought. Pricing is the same for both physical stores and the online store.

iPwnage

Hi, thanks for info. Through unidays I can get 10% off the MacBook Pro 13 inch. But only reduces AppleCare plus from £249 to £199. Is Apple not doing the 50% off the AppleCare plus anymore?

Hi. Anyone had any experience with an “open box” item from theedustore. Never bought an “open box” item before. How does it affect warranty? Is it it brand new condition? Sent them an email yesterday but not got back yet

OB1SY

Agree with most of what you have said! The 10th Gen model (512gb ssd and 16gb ddr4x ram) on the Edustore is being sold for £350 cheaper than Apples website + a 4 year warranty included (which would cost ~£250 if you were to extend it to the same duration using Apple's Care Plan) I wouldn't go ahead with it at the original price but this discounted price is a really good value for money imo

allant3661

In Additional Info on EDU page it says its 8GB Ram

wanderer_forest

Despite saying new 2020 model, this is last year's MacBook Pro 13" with merely an improved keyboard. It's rebadged and overpriced even for Apple. The actual new 2020 MacBook has the 10th gen Intel processor and it's quite hysterical that it starts at £1800. AMD Ryzen 4000 chips are sorely missed here: Cheaper, faster and more energy efficient. 10th Intel is such a disappointment. Equivalent premium Dell XPS is several hundred cheaper and actually looks like a 2020 device (MacBook looks like it's from 2010 with those ginormous grandad bezels). Even for Apple, I'd say £400 overpriced. Not a good time to buy laptops with 1) Coronavirus has caused prices to swell 2) new AMD chips should be available on mass later this year - stuff from Asus, Lenovo and others have already appeared. The performance difference is enormous. My advice is if you can hold off, you should until end of year.

It is. And that would depend on your use case. 11 inch - perfect media consumption device, great portability 12.9 inch - laptop ‘replacement’, great for media creation/editing, nice split screen view, would recommend for uni I’ve found myself using Notability and GoodNotes frequently. Been using it to VNC into a remote computer. Definitely found myself using it more than my laptop

Agree with what you are saying. I had my old MacBook Pro 2010 damaged last month as it dropped from my hand. Otherwise, it was in perfect working condition. It also had all operating systems except for the most recent one. All the apps and softwares worked perfectly fine on it. I only had one change from HSD to SSD

bbbazman

I get that too. I switched in 2011 after using my wife's then recently acquired macbook pro that I'd told her for years was a silly idea. (I'm way back to windows 3.1) I was very pleasantly taken aback with the whole experience and took steps to allow my windows programmes to run on my (new then) 15" MBP due to my windows history. I kept a windows machine live as well during the transition. However, the only windows machines at my house now are obsolete models in the cupboard. I use windows 10 at work on a current dell XPS15 and I have no difficulty switching between the differing Operating Systems. I have my preference, but it's not difficult to switch between. As someone else says, it may take a bit of time to set up things the way you like, ie right clicking, set up for work flow etc just as you will have done with windows I expect. I'm still learning workflow improvements on windows and Mac machines. I do think that the apple stuff is a bit over priced and I get why many people will avoid purely for that reason but for me, the extra cost is justified for the user experience and residual value of the hardware. Good luck in your decision making! (y)

Yes, yes they are. Maybe you should ask them about XMA. The person you spoke to has misinformed you.

deleted1410297

I’ve since decided to keep my late 2013. Even with the discount of that site + warranty £1.1K isn’t that far off from apple.

ninp

Call them back and ask if they can price match XMA Ltd. That's the trading name. XMA Ltd are definitely authorized. They're are the UK's largest supplier of computers to universities and schools. I checked them out thoroughly when I bought a MacBook air from them in January. I also asked Apple (in store) about price matching I was told they didn't price match, but it's worth checking incase they've changed policy or I was told incorrectly.

deleted1410297

I called them since they said they could price match any authorised reseller. I quoted "theedustore.co.uk" and even mentioned the authorised marker on the website but they said they're not authorised.
