Finally!! A good free app to compete against National Rail who charges a ridiculous £4.99 for theirs, this alternative is completely FREE!

I particularly like the fact that you can download timetables and use it offline. Must have for commuters and people who travel often.

This is the official app from thetrainine and is perfect for anyone who needs to access timetables and plan rail travel. You can also download timetables and refer to them anytime, whether your iPhone (or iPod touch) is online or not.

Plan your journey
* View rail times and journey information for all national routes
* No need to worry about missing your train - timetable information is updated daily
* Find your nearest station from a list or map using your iPhone's location services
* From "Plan Journey", one click takes you to thetrainline site where you can purchase cheap tickets from us

Saved Journeys and Timetables
* Download timetables that can be viewed when you're not online
* Save your favourite journeys for easy lookup

Next train home
* No need to run for your train, one touch finds the next train home

Tweet your journey
* Sheep on the line? Share live news about your journey or find out who else on the train supports your football team

Thanks, I have been wanting a free train times app

Great find.

good find, yeah Nat Rail app is a rip off, I've been using their website over 3G which sometimes was a headache in itself

Thanks for the tip. Just grabbed it myself, probably find it useful one day.

Cheers, H&R

Good find, tried it but trainline servers don't seem to want to bring back any details

Also tried another free app doing the same called 'Train Search' by crosscountry, which does work for my, probable worth getting this as well as a backup

A second recommendation for "Train Search" from Cross Country Trains here - also free and works well.

Fantastic thank you so much!

Thanks v. much for finding this.
I was shocked when I saw how much the National Rail Enquiries app. cost so I continued to use the trainline.com web site on my mobile instead. This should hopefully prove to be a much quicker and simpler to use. Heat & Rep. added.

I can't find a way to check station departures, anyone know how to?

Nice app, I just got this

train search is another good and free app!

Tried this one and its not as good as train search Im afraid....still good though. Heat added.

Great app. But missing one essential piece of information when you carry out a search. The platform number you need to be on.

This is crucial bit of information when you're in a rush and your journey has interchanges. Some stations have 10, 20 platforms and you can't go around wasting time.

^ very true Mebster,

on a side note, if you havnt got a Iphone, and for a nokia phone etc running S60 theres a app called UKRails v1.0 which is free, which is over at s60dev.com/200…tml

havnt used it myself, as its been shared on rapid share and its maxed out its downloads,

Anyone worked out how to update the timetables once you have downloaded them?

This is the main reason as to why 'train search' is a better free app for train info.
