Thinking of leaving LoveFiLM? Milk them first...

I just called up to cancel (stupid - you HAVE to phone an 0870 number to cancel), and they instead instantly offered me three months for the price of one.

I'll just use that, and then cancel when it's done!

I'd suggest everybody does this, as their service seems to have dropped off.

I agree their service has dropped, but still a good offer
after that if you want one use Blockbuster its the best one around..

Yep their service has dropped off, have not had a top title in over six weeks, so cancelled mine today, but did it completely online!

I have just come to the end of my 3 months for the price of 1 offer, maybe thats why I could cancel online - they have nothing else to effer.

Now one month into a 3 for 1 offer with MyMovieStream, plenty of top titles but slow turnaround!

Beware, lovefilm charged me for 2 months rent (£29.98) during the first few days of a free trial with them. They even tried to tell me I was charged because I had finished the free trial period of 2 weeks after only 3 days - hello!???

They are certainly not what they used to be. I use blockbuster now.

I honestly don't see the point.

You'll have appalling service for those three months waiting an entirity for film in your basket to be sent to you. It's a shame that they've saturated the DVD rental market and there are very few others to go for that are not affiliated with them.

]http//ww…om/ and ]http//ww…uk/ are two that are not, both of which I have used and are highly recommended.

I'd rather give my money to Blockbuster (who I'm with and simply cannot be matched for choice, service and price) than Lovefilm.

Rant over. :-D

Ah, good tip.

I got very annoyed because the person I was talking to started asking me about my Christmas plans! I said "is there anything more you need from me, because I want to go" - she then said she'd quickly make the change to my account to effect the deal they'd offered me, and 5 seconds later that was it, done. Why the small talk, goodness knows. Almost like they're instructed to talk rubbish and keep customers on the phone!

Why pay anything at all....check out my post for totally free 3 months with them:

There's a £14.99 reactivation fee, isn't there?

Works out to be equal to what they've offered me.

I was able to carry out the cancellation process completely online this morning!

Are you still able to get to that cancellation page using your account? Mind sharing the URL?

If LoveFiLM have been sloppy, I may be able to just browse to that page (assuming it's an additional page, rather than a dynamically-generated variation of the cancellation page I've been seeing) and cancel that way.

No I can't navigate there, it's changed to a ]reverse pending cancellation URL now.

Signed up for free 3 months (2 disks at a time) Sunday and put only 12 films in basket. 2 sent out Mon and returned by me on Tues. Next 2 in the post Weds ...

So far so good ... Even if its only during the free trial !

They sent me two vouchers for 3 months free service, I probably wont use them though, I barely watch movies anymore these days anyway.

I cancelled online too but a girl in the office tried and it gave her a 0870 number to call, no idea why I did it successfully.

In their defence, I have to say lovefilm have always been spot on with us; but then our rental list is made up of every Postman Pat DVD that has ever been released, etc., so we're probably not looking for dvds that are in demand ...

I cancelled after 3 months for £9.99 with no such inducements to stay.

I just went over to tesco DVD rental for 3 free months - run on Tesco's behalf by Lovefilm.

That used to happen with screenselect. It appeared to be at random that they sometimes asked you to call to continue your cancellation.I suppose they think they might have a better chance of persuading you to stay if you have to talk to someone.

i just tried to sign up for tesco film rental, using the free trial code, they told me ive already had a free trial!! ive never used postal rental before!!

Ive been with Lovefilm for about 3 months now, and i have found their service excellent. I must be lucky!:viking:

Welcome to HUKD Silverity

What, made them higher !!

Hey all, I used to work for the named company not all that long ago your'll prob find that it clicks between online and phone cancel at certain times of day, and if someones available to take a call / convince you to stay.

Tried most of the other services as part of 'competition review' too and out of all of them the Amazon one didn't work too badly value wise.

If anyone needs any help dealing with them you could pm me I guess, although I could only give advice otherwise they would prob sue me or treat you worse if they knew I was helping.. haha :whistling:

Too true, I was their top saver for a while as little things like how soon you pre-order and how you order the rental queue can make big differances to someones account.. course at the time I also had the benefits of the insider knowledge.. knowing how many copies of a title were in circulation etc.

Biggest thing that will effect your account is number of rentals you get through and the rate at which you watch return them, getting lots of rentals a month is possible, but getting all top 10 titles constantly pretty much isn't.

Thats standard call centre stuff now, because everywhere has stats and feedback on calls / volumes / time to resolve them etc its easy to plot changeovers and how things will work during busy periods.

If they still use the same rules as when I was there between 8pm and 8am you should be able to hassle free cancel online.. unless they are on a save the customer drive in which case it will ask you to email or phone in.

All this info is publically available though, as I can't quite go into the detail I'm sure you'd all like about how the whole dvd rental services work!

Thanks for all this info. Now you're gonna get a thousand questions.I'll start...
1.How soon you pre-order....does that mean if i select a title as soon it is available to reserve that i will be high in the pecking order to get it when it is released?
2.How you order the rental queue...can you expand on that please.
3.With this fair use policy, how do they decide who to gag with the number of rentals they allow you to have.I am a high user, but not necessarily new or top 10 titles.
Thanks in advance.

Hey Bazr, without going into too much detail its hard to answer, but here goes:-

1. Its a simple date order system so the sooner you order it the sooner you will get it near to release, the only thing that can edit this is the dvd rental companys ability to edit the date added there end at whim. For instance if you'd phoned me and was going to cancel unless you got title a as your next rental I may be able to prioritize it for you. It is also stock depandant though bare in mind the most expensive time to buy a dvd is when its first out, so most of the time initial stocks are low and within 14 days of release are bulstered.

2. If you fill your rental queue with top titles it is generally best to blend it a bit, for instance if the system see's your entire top 5 is out on rental / out of stock then it will look further down but there can be a bug whereby it simply selects your top available selection, which could be anywhere in the rental queue. Preordering and having at bottom of the queue, then moving to number one nearer when you want it wont loose you anything and helps it all go around. If you mix the titles up it helps your queue and the system stay healthy.

3. Fair use policy is figured out by how many rentals you are getting and how often depending on the amount you pay a month, something I had many many arguments with management about as they wouldn't even tell the staff what the levels are! As a matter of course I wouldn't expect anything more than 4 dvds a week if your on gold.. number based on turn around mostly.

Chances are if any of your were customers since the company started up I have fielded your emails before anyway.. an yes before you ask templates are sometimes used to speed up rate of answering mails.

Well, I may have bought some items cheaper that I would not have bought at all ...

I've been with LoveFilm since the DVDSONTAP days, and I'm a fan. I don't watch enough DVDs to be joined permanently so I take up a 3 months for 1 offer and then cancel. After a while they email the 3 for 1 deal again (usually the 2 for 1 offer comes a couple of times first) then I sign up.

The one thing that does annoy me about them is their policy on faulty discs. ScreenSelect (before they were subsumed by LF) used to give you 7 days free membership if you got a faulty disc and would send a replacement before the faulty one was returned. LF give you an email apology, gee ta, and wait until the disc is back with them.

Cheers
Simon

I just cancelled my sub yesterday.

Think I am one of the few that thought the service (delivery at least, not customer) was great.

Just ran out of titles to make it worthwhile.

Hi Simon, in the old dvdsontap and Lf days we used to do the same as Screenselect did for faulty discs, trouble is once people realized they got free time it was abused to the point where people were getting stupid amounts of free time per account. If a disc is returned and found faulty on return then they have a case so if your emailing or talking to someone about them a lot of the time I used to get people to mark the return for my attention and I would then get the disc, give it a quick check and award the customer if there was a problem. Also dont think just because LF has been the brand name that has been kept its the dominant one, from what I have seen its more of a 60/40 split so still a lot of Screenselect going too!

Strange - I consistently get 6 dvds or more a week (on 3 at a time deal). E.G. Posted to me on monday, received tuesday and posted back tuesday afternoon. Lovefilm post out some more thursday which they get back on saturday and soemtimes post out some more on the saturday. More usually, it is the monday.

If you are a lovefilm paying member then ring up their cancellation line when you are 3-5 days from your next payment date and say you wish to cancel. They then give you 3 months for the price of 1 every time. They bring your payment date forward to the date you ring hence its not worth ringing when you have just paid a premium.

I have paid £60 for the last years membership in total (3 films at a time).
