This will probably get red hot. I'm always a bit worried about cashback and it's easy to miss deadlines and things getting lost in the post. I'd definately pay the £5 extra for Special Delivery of the paper work.

Edit: Just read a few reviews about this model and most said they were disappointed with the screen performance. Maybe a good idea to try and see this first in a shop before buying because the screen is actually very (if not the most) important part.

My wife as a TP Edge, AMD Turion version. Excellent machine for the money, especially build-quality.

TP Edge's also feature WIMAX support btw

Great deal!!

Silly cramped keyboard on a 15.6" laptop. (Some of the pictures above are of the 11" and 13" models - the 15.5" is the one with a tiny keyboard in a sea of plastic).

Apart from that gripe - HOT.

Ram is putting me off.

looks a great price,
just sorting out the £100 cashback on my samsung LED tv at the moment, if its as easy to do as this one cashback shouldn't put you off

Yeah, as long as you follow the instructions and send your claim within the dates required using recorded delivery you should have no issues.

I'm not being funny, but whats another 2gb gonna cost you? This AMD one is netbook money oO

Any ideas which would be good for the kids £274 or £369.

Just for homework, surfing web pages - nothing to tough (and it keeps them off mine)

The AMD would be fine (especially for nearly £100 less). The only difference you would notice for those tasks is slightly less battery time (I assume they will be using at home mainly anyway) and it will run slightly warmer (may hear the fans more).

I'd have thought the £274 would be fine.

P.S. there are other deals available at saveonlaptops - just enter edge in the search page; some have more memory / bigger HDD. (I think Adidas Addict picked out the two that would please most folks though).

That explains why it's better to go through this site rather than from the manufacter. Thanks

Is the company ok? (the reseller that is)

You can also get the cut down Core i3 version (P4600 cpu) for £332:

Cool so the AMD and I3 processor are relatively the same?. Not much difference in performance?.

I thought keyboards were all a standard size across manufacturers? It might look stupid but then it doesn't have the number pad that most laptops of this size do.

Just got one @ £274

Thanks OP.

The Core i3 is a fair bit quicker and probably runs cooler - benchmarks here:

Whats the AMD equivalent compared to say a Intel Core Duo 2?, really want one to play L4D2 on weekends besides from using it for photoshop.

Plus how difficult to install ram?.

The RAM slots are easily accessible by removing 4 or 5 screws.

Its roughly the same as a 2ghz Pentium.

How these compare to the old IBM thinkpads in terms of build quality? I use an IBM X41 model back from 2005 which is rock solid and has taken more knocks than Ricky Hatton but still going strong without a hitch.

The AMD P320 cpu is equivalent to the Intel Celeron T3300 2.0GHz cpu.

So if I get the AMD it won't be good for gaming L4D at all?, just celerons I hear are pretty poor.

The Thinkpad line, made by Lenovo is just as strong and durable as the old IBM days. The Thinkpad Edge, is of a high build quality, much better than its rivals. But it's not built like a T/W/X series quite.

It will play L4D on low settings fine, but you're not going to get a gaming laptop here. (_;)

Banned

I wasn't expecting that just play L4D casually not on high res so if I could play it with low-med settings I be happy.

Which it will do.

Original Poster

At a guess I would say 30fps on low. Anything higher will be a no go I think.

How does this work then, if you buy do you pay £274 and then get £100 cashback later if you qualify or will it charge you £374 and then if you qualify you will get £100 back?

Cheers

Not at the moment. I paid £250 for a similar spec'd laptop 18 months ago. The chinese yuan is causing prices to rise.
