Thomas Cook - £170 off Summer 2012 Holidays

Thomas Cook are offering £170 off Summer 2012 booking...

£170 is that it???

the reason why they are struggling is that their holidays are massively overpriced even after £170 off

I'll be booking my holiday between Christmas & New Year like I always do with Travel Republic

Cold from me

Hmmm will they still be round then ???

I am not sure about the risks of booking with Thomas Cook. Seems like they are having some financial difficulty

There is no risk, as they are a member of atol or something to that extent, you're money is safe if the company goes bust..

This. ^^^^^

However, even though you wouldn't lose your money you'd be left in the lurch with no holiday and stuck in rainy, gloomy UK

that's fine, but in the meantime if you want to go away you would need to book and pay for another holiday and wait until atol paid you back who apparently are months behind, so your logic is fine if you have money for 2 holidays!

exactly - cost me over £300 when KISS went into liquidation through increased flight costs since booking time.

took 5 months for ATOL to cough up the original cost too and the paperwork required was a nightmare to produce. They kept saying I should claim off my credit card rather than them!

Thomas Cook have had a number of loans from the bank. Especially at this time of the year - winter when most holiday firms lose money

For some reason this one was headline news unlike all the other ones!

But the £170 off 2012 deal - not that exciting really

thanks, but I'd rather risk crossing the M25 twice rather than risk my money with Thomas Cook at this precise moment (ATOL protected or not, I just don't need the hassle if they do go bust).

Besides which, last time I went with them on holiday, they had us standing round for about 3 and a half hours at check in due to computer failure, and then fobbed us all off with excuses (a complimentary drink or sandwich wouldn't have gone amiss!)..

Of course they are going to struggle, people book online themselves and save a lot of money doing that. It's not that difficult and certainly not worth the extra money they charge for being a middle man.

Time they shut all of their shops and used the savings to concentrate on being a competitive online travel agent. There really is no future in their current form and the big loan they just got won't help to keep them afloat for long.

Of course nobody wishes to see job losses that closing stores would mean and the subsequent loss of revenue for tanning salons and make up counters all over the UK.

Thomas Cook would like to reassure you that it holds an ATOL and is a member of ABTA The Travel Association with ABTA bonding. All our package holidays are financially protected which means you can book your holiday with complete confidence. As a travel company with over 170 years of experience our customers have always been our first priority and continue to be so.

We've delivered great value for 170 years. 2012 will be no different!

BEWARE.

BEWARE of what?

Posting ill informed comments or something else

I do feel for TC it will be hard to persuade buyers to come back

Why would I risk buying a holiday with them when I can get the same guarantees elsewhere at a fraction of the price?

They're sticking extra flights in our airport next summer apparently, so they're not expecting to be going bust themselves! Think they've been bailed out for now. Still very expensive though, even with the discount.

the holiday I have been watching the price of over the last few months has actually gone UP by about £170! (in total for a family)
I'll will wait til the new year & hopefully might be cheaper then

another one who needs to read the thread. ATOL do not re-book your holiday at the same price!

I am well aware what the ATOL scheme is all about and I have read the thread. The main difference is I do not have an axe to grind.

ATOL is a financial protection scheme for holidaymakers. If an ATOL tour operator fails, the ATOL scheme ensures customers contracted with the ATOL holder for an air package or a flight, do not lose the money paid over or are not stranded abroad.

Check that you have ATOL protection.

You may also find that some companies may book you flights and accommodation where you are actually not covered by ATOL.

I don't think the issue is with getting money back. That'll happen. It's the pain of having a holiday cancelled that you've been looking forward to and then having to book another when the refund comes through (which WILL take time).

Gotta be cold.

I really can't believe the cynism in this thread. £170 is better then nothing. This is a recognised brand - ok point taken they have taken a brusing but they operate globally and atleast they were open with their balance sheet. How many other travel companies are struggling and havent admitted to it?! This for me is HOT and this is both on the basis of a competitive offering and knowledge I am buying from a reputable company. YES - REPUTABLE.

I seriously didnt think anyone would fall for this and think you are actually getting £170 off! oO

The mind boggles

Mind Boggles - that no one trusts anyone nowadays.... I can't believe people are voting cold and just following the crowd... hey ho - that teach me for sharing!

Will never book with Thomas Cook again. Our flight times were changed by 2 hours without informing us. When I found out and explained that it would have been nice to be informed, I was told 'tough'. To cap it all, we were put on a flight operated by 'Mint Airlines' - a 21 year old plane with no A/C and the most uncomfortable seats I've ever flown on.

Hated every second

As long as it wasnt " the mint with a hole in it "

sorry (_;)

The holiday we had this year would cost over £500 more for next year, and that`s for 2 people, same dates , hotel, flight times etc. Over £1500 each with no in flight meals, and a miserly 15kg luggage allowance. Fools rush in.
