Just saw this at my Local ASDA (Lincoln),and i kid you not, they had a mountain of these at the front of the store!

At sixty quid id say its a good buy!!!

Ill try and get a picture if i go back tomorrow, my phones camera is poor (N81)...

Cant see it online, If i remember correctly it was the 160gb version... could be wrong though, had Setanta promotion packaging all over it.

Could be store specific but not too sure...

Yes, the usual record two channels and watch a previous recording capability.

Yeah, I loved mine. Most bugs ironed but but they can still sometimes fail to record properly resulting in a corrupt recording and they can skip backwards while FF over 16x speed. The new firmware start trials in Jan and should be out soon, its a complete rewrite and will bring it up to date with new features.

Have some heat

I've had one of these for a couple of years and have had the problems as described above.
Can anyone point me in the right direction how to upgrade the firmware to sort out the problems.
Cheers

1. Its Thomson, not thompson (helps for future searches)

2. If its the 6300 series, then avoid at all costs. Fan stays on all the time so is very noisy, fails to record some of the time and countless other bugs with this model. I wouldn't pay £5 for one.

These reviews say it all really:-

I confirm absolutely that this is a total DUD :-(

Long ago thrown in the bin - can't say I have ever done that with any other electronic gear.

Is anybody who has seen one of the ASDA models able to onfirm the model number please?
Thanks.

i was tempted by one of these a while ago but plumped for a more expensive humax which is ace.

all the reviews for the these thomsons models that i read 6 months ago were that they failed horribly.

mind you 6 months is an age with technology

stick with a humax. With these machines, you really do get what you pay for.

buy cheap, buy twice certainly does apply when it comes to these cheap PVR's.

I agree the thomson 6300 is very noisy all the time and fails to record and locks up,I had two and then ended up with a refund and bought a Humax which has much better features and turns off its fan when on standby.

The fan is a pain if you have it in a bedroom but its not noticable if its under the Telly. The reason the fan stays on is because the box downloads TUTV content overnight and it would melt otherwise. The Wharfedale TUTV variant had been designed with fanless cooling so doesn't have this issue but that and the Humax ain't this cheap.

Avoid these boxes like the plague!

variation on a simialr (but heated debate) theme within this later HUKD thread for recon 160gb Thomson box here:
