This deal seamed almost too good to be true. If like me your interested in getting Setanta for the footie, might aswell pick up the free hard disk recorder also

Deal ends Monday

I still wouldn`t touch Setanta with the proverbial Barge Pole amateur bunch of gold diggers!!!!

Where did you find out the deal ends on monday???

Original Poster

It was on the TV channel, it said weekend special, i assume that means till Monday

It's been on offer for over a week tho, presumed it was till end of the month. Do you have to keep the topuptv sub to keep the Setanta? Wouldn't wanna pay £10 a month on ****** topuptv just for setanta

Nope the setanta is included no topup required.

Anybody care to tell me why this is cold? Great value for anybody wanting to subscribe for the football. That sub will cost you £110 over the season so its infact cheaper to by this box.

It's a 4 day deal, see top left of page where you get the chanel number, e.g I have freeview, so it's chanel 22 for me, and It's on at midnight, seems too good to be true, just wondering if there's a catch with the setanta deal, Im already subscribed with setanta which has went up to £12 a month times 9 months left to end of season = £108 They are charging you 99+ 3pp+20 connection fee comes to about £124, and for this your geting 9 months setanta 1 month top up tv and a 250g thomson box and just noticed 1 month movie box free meaning you are paying £1 delivered for the box. Great deal o.p voted hot.

Watch out for the connection fee £20, once Setanta get hold of your credit or debit card details you will have trouble stopping them taking cash even if you try to cancel !!!!!!!!!!BEWARE !!!!!!!

No idea why it's cold.
This is a reasonable price (although it has been cheaper elsewhere) for just the box, when you include a season of Setanta (which is what 10 months amounts to), it's a pretty good deal.

Although.....It's cheaper direct from ]TopupTV (same price, but free delivery).

As for Setanta after the 10 months...... Not a great deal....£10.99 a month, for one single solitary sports channel which carries 70% more Conference (sorry, Blue Square Premier) games, and 30% more Scottish Premier games, than games from the English Barclays Premiership.
Great if you like Scottish football, or "grass-roots" (someone tell Setanta the Conference isn't exactly grass-roots football!), not so great if you like English football (especially from the Championship, or Leagues 1 & 2 - because you'll get none of that).

this is not cheaper, because it does not include 1 month free picturebox which is £5 a month

It's only worth £5 a month, if you think that amount, for a single movie channel, is not a rip-off.

Just got off the phone to topuptv:
- there is NO obligation to keep the topuptv - you can just keep the free 10 months Setanta
- there is currently no end date for the offer, in fact they are already getting promotional material for a big push in December (although he couldn't guarantee the offer would be permanently available between now and then)

So all in all a very good deal - I'll be buying a thompson box next week

Yes, connect to Setanta at your peril. They mis-sold some kit and took extra money from my bank account without authorisation or notification.

If you ever want to leave Setanta or seek a refund you will be ignored. After 26 long phone calls, 3 registered letters, Trading Standards then advised me to take Setanta to County Court which to my horror meant myself travelling to Scotland where they are based. How fair is that!

Setanta know the law and that's why they'll ignore you. Disgraceful company that should not be allowed to trade.

setanta are based in Ireland, but why would you have to travel to Ireland if you take them to a British court, as for canceling just cancel standing order with bank.

I'm sure Fife is in Scotland? Trading Standards thought so too. Pehaps Setanta have moved recently?

Indeed, why would I have to travel. Because, according to the Trading Standards officer, I have to use a county court near them and not a court near to me. Seems unfair but I took his word for it. Perhaps he was wrong too?

Of course I cancelled the standing order.

That seems to match what I have heard too, and add that to the lousy service offered by Ideal World (and their "fantasy" descriptions!), and it makes it a hot deal... wrong sort though - TOO hot to handle :-(

this site is full of people who haven't got a clue, a free 250g freeview box, how could you possibly vote that cold

We are agreed on something then

Worst company ever if you give then your bank or credit card details they take money without consent and you aint gotta leg to stand on getting it back.

Never had a problem cancelling with setanta. I'm thinking of geting this deal too. Seems hot to me

Anyone know the model number? Is it a good box?

The box uses as much power in normal operation as it does in standby (approx 25 watts).
It makes a noise 24/7 whether in standby or operating - really not suitable for use in a bedroom unless you're a heavy sleeper.
Available off the shelf in Tesco at £99.97
