Yeah I know but what I'm saying is that while weekends are off the table, students can get a weekend job and go during the week? Where they are students, normally they don't work because they're on their summer holidays. =l Anyway, it is normally common sense to check those BEFORE buying anyway. It is the same on a standard Merlin annual pass anyway, the only way to avoid this is by paying for the expensive one which, which is nearly £200 each!

deanos

Exactly, you didn't mention the terms, quite important, cant check at moment as on phone

DealsIUsed

True but from what I’ve seen, the general rules on this are the following (don’t quote me here, please check); 1 Extra charge on Fright Nights 2. No entry on Fridays, Saturdays or Sunday’s in August. But that’s about it? Correct me if I’m wrong please.

deanos

check terms closely, some annual passes have limited dates you can use it

The whole of Merlin is out of date. We used to have Merlin passes and saw them all go down hill over the years. Thorpe park seems desperate. Not been once this year and kids haven't missed it.

When they advertise something they can’t supply plus other tat. In my eyes yes it’s a two bit station.

Yes, this is cheaper than the 2 for 1 because the 2 for 1 prices have to be paid at the gate which costs £55. So, even at 2 for 1, you are paying £7.50 less this way. Although if you are going with a mate(s), then all of you have to have a student ID with a valid expiration date on it. Or you could use Student Beans to get a code for your mates and send that code to them for them to buy them. Yes, the Student Beans method is slightly more expensive (by a couple of pounds) but still. Just putting it out there.

Can't imagine anything worse than going to Thorpe Park on a baking hot Saturday. Queue for an hour in the sun because there's minimal shade and get a handful of rides in. I went a couple of weeks ago on a Friday which was alright, then had fastpass for an hour on Saturday and then scarpered because no thanks.

First of all you don't know that for fact, and it certainly isn't Thorpe Park pretending to be kind. Unfortunately the web sight gives no details but a quick phone call will let you know what the offers for families are when part of the party is an armed forces member. Please let me know what you find out after your phone call as I am an ex soldier.

So If gi Joe takes his wife and 2 kids he pays for 3. Surely 2 x 241 deal would be better? This is tp pretending to be kind. A massive bunch of squaddies should all turn up with no family to teach them a lesson

Way to go to make it selective - demanding your name is spelled in the most unusual way possible. Would have cost Thorpe Park more if they gave free admission to anyone who claims to be an actress that nobody has heard of, or someone with a rugby player for a father.

I've just booked this deal to stay in their Shark hotel. (shipping container or not, I don't care) I don't sleep with my eyes open, do you? Anyhow, we don't have to drive the car anywhere else at night or back again in the morning, no parking to worry about on either side, (as there is only the one side), free breakfast, free park entry x2 days and the deal I managed to get IN THE MAY HALF TERM for 1 adult plus 2 children, WITH free cancellation (£9.xx extra) came to £100.34. It was coming out more if I said it was 1 adult, 2 children (an extra £20) but as soon as I changed it to 2 adults and 1 child (all went through as ADULTS anyway) it came down to just over £90. I double checked the tickets by the gate, and adults and any children aged 3 and above were charged adult rate and so the rooms accept no more than 4 heartbeats, regardless of size. So I do find it very strange that they charge more for an extra child and less adults. Very bizarre as even the breakfast is included and a child eats less of that too. Oh well, I'm happy. Thanks for posting.

Saversaving

Well I certainly appreciate how much you wrote and I read it right to the very end. So thank you! I think I will have to stay in one of the very tiny rooms though as we are 3 hours drive from Thorpe Park. It sounds like a good deal and like you had a great time.

darraghb96

I booked for end of may 30/31 and it was £59 for two so just under £30 each

PAULTRD

Why would anyone want to stay in a shipping container?

Liam1990

They generally open the park earlier that 10 to people staying in their shipping containers so it's more like 1.5 - 2 hours of fast track. When we went we managed to do all the main rides and a couple repeats in that time. Enjoyed those 2 hours more than the rest of the time there as I hate queues (but love adrenaline). Top tip: remember to turn the ac on at night or everything inside will be wet with moisture in the morning...

I rode it a couple of weeks ago, pre show was short video, then thorough to ride (long walk), they've made a few changes but not a lot different (other than it stops briefly) then another long walk off. loopylu9

I remember when legoland was £2 to park about 5 years ago. I had premium merlin passes up to summer 2017 and at the time all the theme parks were £5/£6 to park.

stevesteca

Hi, The same as us.We gave up on the parks about two years ago. we would go off peak and it was still packed even when it rained,So I guess the BOGOF Tickes and cheap passes have ruined it all and charging for car parking Rip-off where are you going to park if you don’t park there? we went about 5 years ago and it was great. Now it’s a waste of money you get on about 3 rides then it’s home time.

Probably best to book online in advance. If your a student you can download an app called “Student beans” and get the Thorpe Park annual pass for £38.

Might sound a bit harsh but it just shows what fear about safety concerns does to people. After Alton Towers last year, Drayton Manor the other week and now Manc the other night theme parks will be literally opening their gates for free to get people through so you'll be seeing plenty more of these.

Went Thorpe Park last year, stayed in the onsite hotel thing, would go again, only thing was on the second day, because we did everything several times on the first day, we just did everything again and left at around 11:30. To be fair I would rather do everything too many times than be queuing for 2 days and not get on everything once, but it'd be nice if they had a couple shows on throughout the day or something. I'd happily do it again in a year or two when there's new attraction(s), we paid around £50-60 for 2 days and a night on site, but the 200 mile drive means I'll stick to single days at Alton Towers and Blackpool for now. EDIT: Voted hot btw ;]

ro53ben

No - stick to Chessington or Legoland if you must.

ro53ben

Very few of those hotels are anywhere near the park at all, many are an hour or more away. Those that are nearby are not particularly good.

The Ghost Train is particularly affected by this, being mostly unavailable for the two days we were there. Food and drinks are fairly pricey and the park needs a bit of TLC in terms of cleaning and painting as it looks a bit dated.

FierceVinegar

so i get to vote for someone that won't have a chance and go to a **** theme park great

TANDY

Bit ageist isn't it ?

Dodge62

Impossible to know, though, isn't it? If they don't vote, politicians will assume they're never going to, and not bother tailoring policies towards them. If they were to register, turn up, and spoil their ballot papers, then at least the politicians would know it's worth trying to do stuff that these people might approve of. Don't vote, don't complain that politicians are all useless. Of course they will be (for you) if they don't think you'll ever vote for them.

I've been there four times, always Saturdays during the Spring/Summer, and I've never left later than 2pm.

Drooler

No way you need 2 days to do the lot twice. One is plenty.

shopar_artiz

nope, it is 20% for kids only. some rides even have "g" force, quite fun for a group of pals to go.

shopar_artiz

you must be joking, if you do not have fast track, even omn a rainy weekday, and arriving at 10am, you can only use the rides once till it is 6pm. i have been there with my pals before twice, and never had a chance to use main rides more than once. in 7 hours.

You're right to some extent but in my opinion, it isn't that bad. Like I said on another thread, if you get there early, you can go on more than 10 rides. Whenever we go, we do that, go back to the car for lunch ( to avoid the wasps), go to the 4D movie theatre and sometimes the mini theatre and pirate show by the bay. Never have I or will I buy the Qbot - pure extortion. My kids are under 10 and only like gentle rides so Alton towers is no good to us. I did think about Thorpe park for a change this year but they have asked to go to Legoland again. It might also have something to do with them loving Lego. Just waiting for the annual pass sale now as I've already booked our hotel stay.

bargainhunter666

It looked very messy, in need of decoration, rides very outdated, queues were terrible for what the rides were. Had a Merlin Season pass so it wasn't the cost of entry that bothered me but we never went again and i've seen the same feelings echoes many times.

mickael28

Out of curiosity, what was so bad?

bargainhunter666

Really? We said we wouldn't go in there if we were given free access. I can't imagine it has got any better. Shocking place 3 years ago.

Not really, I don't mind bundling the kids in the car early and getting down for opening time, however I'd be loathed to then do the journey in reverse the same day. Makes for two gentler days, I'm probably 3.5 hours from there. I do get your point, but it takes some of the driving out of it (and not always good driving the day before).

hoarhouse

I've never really thought of it like that, but, I totally agree.

ariddle

I've never bought into the whole 2 day 1 night thing. If you need a hotel then you must be a fair drive away, losing a fair chunk of either day getting there/back or setting off really early/getting home late, you cant really enjoy yourself. Makes more sense to offer more nights than days, so you get your full time in the park and time to relax after.

jasee

They must get damned hot in the summer unless there's air conditioning. £50 per person is expensive, I think. I just paid an average of £33 pounds per person for a proper hotel room ensuite bathroom, loo, free parking, for about two weeks including a full English breakfast just near Osterley. But then you'll be charged for parking and entry is likely to be £25 or more unless you've got a merlin pass. So I guess this is a good deal.

I went last saturday (the 10th) it was packed the mazes opened at 3 and we managed to get in the queue for cabin in the woods and waited an hour but that was all we did as others were 2 hours but were actually longer as the signs didnt go more than 2 hours. The blair witch wasnt open till 6 and the big top was constantly 2 hours. We lined up for my bloody valentine but it broke down mid queue and everyone started climbing over the barriers. So after this we went home. Saying that the queues in the daytime were not too bad it was a case of catching them at the righg time. But saw the ride we think as it was halloween related was busy allday and we had to obtain fast passes to get on. But word to the wise if your looking to do mazes then be prepared to queue not ride as 12 hours seems alot but isnt when you take into account the queue times and i wouldnt recommend booking on the first weekend of fright nights

Jonah06

how good are these scare houses compared to Alton Towers? I have been going to Alton Towers for Halloween for the last 5 years and love it, but would just like to know from people how good Thorpe Park is. for Halloween

xhayleyxjanex

I went last Sunday. the 'long' queue times are exaggerated to encourage you to buy Fast Track Passes. The longest we waited was half an hour even though we were told it was a 70 minute wait. Fast track passes do get you through quite quickly though.

DJBenz

Went in 2014 and found the same thing with queues. What we did to minimise the waits was look at the five (that year) houses and strike off the one that was rated lowest for scares (Blair Witch as it was), then get fast passes for the three middle ones at £5pp before joining the queue for the first maze early (took about 20 mins to get in). We then went and queued for Blair Witch as the wait time had gone right down later in the night. Even the fast pass queues could be 30+ mins! Parking is usually included in the onsite hotel deals, FWIW.

Cakeboy79

I was there last Friday and the queues for the Halloween stuff, the Saw Maze, Big Top etc etc were around 2 hours. It worked well for us as the rest of the park was pretty quiet and we didn't wait for more than about 15 minutes for anything else. That said, if you're going for the scary stuff then expect to wait. Good price for four people though, just remember the £5 parking fee each day as well

Great Value at £49.99 but I would and have gone for the Merlin annual pass in their so called sale (at the end of December). ABARKIE1

Actually, they are all $17.00 - I know I paid it this week for Universal, Disney & Busch Gardens (_;)

Biggunspaul

I wouldn't say it's a bad thing that marlin closed similar rides as at the time they didn't know what caused the incident. If they hadn't of shut them and there was a safely issue with them then everyone would be slagging them off,yet they do the right thing and people still moan, yet it turns out the ride itself was not at fault and the safety features worked perfectly,it was just the human element that was at fault and you can never rule out people making mistakes no matter what field they are working in and how well they are trained. Have you got any links to accident statistics for the major roads and motorways that lead to Alton towers ?

deleted494932

Did you even bother reading the incident history at Alton Towers?! You must be terrified just to leave the house... With 3 million visitors a year, Alton Towers has likely served 60 million people since its creation. If each of those visitors went on just 3 rides per visit, then that is 180 million passenger rides. In that time, there has been ONE major incident (Smiler), one big incident (Runaway Train) and a half dozen or so incidents that are barely even worth mentioning. With those odds, you are definitely at more risk on the way to Alton Towers than you are on any of the rides. Just get some perspective before making knee jerk reactions. Alternatively, keep on with the knee jerk reaction approach, and spend your whole life fearing things that don't need to be feared.

Stayed here in October last year. Rooms are basically converted shipping containers. They're comfortable and clean, but as mentioned have no windows except for the round one in the door. One double bed and two bunk beds, so a family of 4 max. Stayed just me and my son for Fright Nights. Our air-con was fine, could switch it on and off at will. The TV was another matter, it wouldn't go off unless I switched it off at the wall. The people on reception are very helpful with any problems with the room and sort things out quickly. The hour of fast track in the morning is useful, but although you can get in the park at 9.45 the rides don't start until gone 10am. Good for getting the busy rides done first though. One thing against Thorpe Park is its queue management is terrible, with the big coasters easily pushing 3 hour waits. Worse still, when the announcement at one ride was saying 2+ hours, the display screens in the park were saying 90 minutes. Expect to either queue for most of your day or shell out for fast track tickets if you want to do more than three coasters in a day.

Not even a porta cabin, they ARE containers. Like the ones transferred from ferries, trains and lorries. An ok price would be £25-£50. It is a bed for the night and that is it.

Gregertron

Was up there yesterday, didn't stay there but walked past the "hotel". All I can say is they look like someone has decorated and plumbed a port-a-cabin!!! For all I know it Might be great but from looks alone I'm not sure I'd stay in them. Great price for 2 days and a stay over though.
