A sad fact to be sure, but guess you and get a decent board cheap out on this processor and then up it from there in time.
2700x is better and cheaper?
Not sure if someone would now start a build based on this processor.
The recent fall in 2700 and 2700x (if you are after 8 cores) prices paired with highly affordable b450 platform is easily a better choice for even workstations.
Only advantage going for x399 will be (if money is irrelevant) for more PCIe lanes and of course higher core count than 8
considering third gen was announced yesterday with no backwards compatibility it would be a daft thing to buy indeed!

This has more pci lanes difference product
great price, shame the mobos are silly expensive
Do these come with a cooler ? Becoz a threadSipper cooler can be £50+ or more, if cooling via Fluids
Kinda blows the budgety aspect owddapark ..
