It's true in so much that if you have a contract with unlimited data, then they feel that more than 12gb roaming in a month is beyond what they would consider 'reasonable'.

Yes, I can confirm. Limited to 12gb when I was in HK. Used the other 12gb in the UK.

Also took a 12gb data sim to HK and it let me use all of the 12gb.

If you use the 24GB up in a month, then you have to top up, but the top up will be considerably more than £32. I have one in a mifi device.

Definitely 12gb.

Used the sim in HK last August and stopped at 12gb.

Lucky I also had a 12gb sim with me. Someone mentioned this in a thread earlier this year so I took a spare.

19gb in Europe, 12gb everywhere else I think
Will this work in a router that was previously used for 3 mobile broadband?
Nice one,I use these in a mifi device when I go to Slovakia to see the inlaw’s,and used it travelling by road when we travelled back to Poland to the airport, when it runs out just buy another and put in.

Can someone explain why you wouldnt just get an unlimited data sim card for £20 a month?

£20 a month costs £480 over 24 months. This pay as you go sim works out to £32 and you can use your data as you please within 24months. I guess it’s about having no contract and flexibility.

My understanding is that you actually need a sim that allows use of 2G network (data is then transmitted over GPRS) whereas Three sims only allow 3G, 4G and soon 5G.
So not good for a bike or car tracker I am afraid

I think it is a very cheap way to have a travelling tablet where you use data when out of the country and a lot less when at home. This way you have a SIM card that has 24GB to be used over 24 months for £32 at a nominal £1.33 per month.

Having said that, if any of you folk have a better solution for a SIM card for use in a tablet do please share.

I was planning on using this as a WiFi hotspot in my car. Currently using a free pay as you go three sim which gives 200mb free a month! This might be a better option.

You get 24gb that lasts up to 24 months, and at the moment this costs £32.

This works out at £1.34 per GB. If you used a standard 3 PAYG sim it would be 1p per mb, a GB is 1024 mb, so 1 GB = £10.24. 24GB is £245.76. I use one of these sims in a dual sim phone, in conjunction with a Three PAYG sim as I rarely make calls or text.

Assuming only data is being used.

20 / 1.34 gives you the break even data usage, 15 GB a month. If you routinely use more than 15 GB a month on a regular basis, then the £20 a month unlimited data is a better option. Personally I try not to use mobile data for data intensive purposes such as music streaming, watching videos etc. I probably use on average about 1 GB per month, going up when I go away. Therefore for me this one time spend of £32 lasts over a year, much cheaper than £20 a month, and saves me over £200 compared with just using the PAYG mobile data.
