To answer damienscotland's question, I reviewed what was available from other suppliers. At the time Smarty was offering an interesting deal. I rang 'Three' and explained that I was considering leaving them and moving to Smarty. At that time, I genuinely was considering it. I had to endure a pretty much disinterested CS operative who insisted on offering me 'once in a lifetime, just because I'm a valued customer', standard deals which I politely declined. As nothing he could offer was remotely competitive, I told him I would like to give notice to terminate my contract with them.
I was tranfered to another department which I suspect was their retentions department. The lady, who by the way was way more approachable and effective started to process my details. At some point, I can't remember when the conversation touched on why I wanted to leave. I informed her that I actually didn't but as her colleague couldn't come anywhere close to the Smarty deal I had no choice but to leave. At that point she quickly offered me the above deal which I was happy to accept. The only slight negative was that because it was an ammendment to my original contract I wasn't entitled to the new 'Binge' offer.
Finally, something I hadn't realised. Apparently, retention deals like these do lock you in for an additional 12 months but after that they are open ended. That is to say, they don't expire. Therefore, in my case apparently I'll be paying £7 plus whatever annual increase until I cancel the contract.
I hope the above helps.
I thought essential plans included feel at home for within Europe ....
This no doubt is a decent deal for those wanting to pay as little as possible but just be aware that retentions can give fantastic contracts when needed.
so did you take the deal or get the one on top cashback
The TCB one was a 12 month with 30gb data and not unlimited so was a no brainer to go with the retentions offer.
i dont need unlimited so do you think it would be a good idea to go with the 12 for 13 pounds offer making it 8 pounds with cashback, im only using 4 gb usually right now
If you want the ease of just ordering all online and then accepting that the cashback will take a couple of months to be payable then with your usage that deal sounds ideal. Obviously bare in mind that if you are already on 3 then you would need to transfer your current number onto PAYG and then after a month port that number onto the new sim meaning you'd efffectively need the 2 sims in use at the same time to get messages etc on your old number and also be able to use your allowanced on the new one.
Also after 12 months it would effectively jump from the £8 to £13 as the cashback will already have been taken into account so you'll either just have to keep paying it or look for another deal/phone retentions for a better offer.
why would i have to wait a month
Thats if you are already with 3 and want to keep your current phone number. You can't port numbers from a provider while on a non payg tarif to the same provider so the only way to do that would be to transfer your current number to payg then after a month then transfer that to your new contract sim.
If you either don't care about what number you have or are with a different provider then it wouldn't be a problem....for the latter you'd just request a PAC code from your current provider.
Either 30 days or 12month plan
any chance getting this for £8 or less
Unfortunately yes you do only the cancellation team can offer these deals
Call up choose cancelling option then they put you through to upgrades ask for cancellation they will then put you through to another team and they will offer you these deals.
It has roaming in EU only. Not feel at home.
C u next Tuesday!
Brilliant price.
Exactly. That's why I'm leaving my contract as it is. I once used £300 worth of data during a week in Spain and it didn't cost me anything over my normal monthly fee.
I've also used it in Hong Kong and a few other places as well.
Same offered me this last month. Been with three for about 4 years now.
Are you not able to use your minutes/data at the same price now anyway in Europe?
They don't hate you they have loads of people grandfathered into these cheap deals so when they give someone it they know it's for life or until they do a 'one plan' letter on you.
