Tilda Superior Broken Basmati Rice 10 Kg for £5 at Morrisons, Preston

Found 19th Feb 2014
Another 10 Kg rice deal. This time Tilda and for only £5. This was found in Morrison's new Preston store and may well be store specific.

Not sure what Broken rice is, but I assume it's smaller grains then the normal stuff. Can anyone clarify?

Will post a photo in a post below as people didn't believe the £10 deal previously posted.

Broken rice... Good for rice pudding I believe

I've bought broken rice (not Tilda) and it was very difficult to cook right.

Broken rice is a grade of rice consisting of grains broken in the milling process. This is a great price.

thnx gna grab some

Yuck

thats a lot of broken rice, other than rice pudding what would you do with so much?

I suspect there's a very good reason why it's so cheap. This would be a hot price for normal basmati rice but I'm not sure about this, it seems like they just want to get rid of it.

you can use it exactly as normal rice but pre soaking is strongly advised. It is far more starchy as the starch contained within the grains leaks out more (hence the soaking)
If you don't soak it will taste fine but will be more sticky and will stick more to the pan that you are cooking it in.

We are Asian family, normally use cooked rice as main meal. Broken rice is not suitable for cooking. Only good for rice pudding. £5 for 10kg is not good value for broken rice.

Broken boiled rice is ok. Rice pudding even better

extract of amazon feedback on this type of rice
Thought it was a good brand, pre-ordered for appx. 40% less but completely disappointed as it's not just broken, the grains r also much smaller in size... i'd NOT say it tastes just as good as not broken Tilda,

If it's in Morrisons ailing Preston Deepdale "Lab" Store then it is 10000% store specific

mix broken rice with long grain and You'll have great tasting rice!

If soaked first would this be good for sushi and onigiri?

Why is it ailing? It has great prices and is very spacious.

Maybe that background music they play in other supermarkets really does make all the difference.

is there are good offers in the deepdale morrisons as was thinking of going however i dont live near?

It's on it's **** if the rumour that it's closing for 6 weeks for a revamp already are to be beleived. Hence the desperate 3 day petrol price drop to entice people in. As like me they have visited and found it only has 50% of the choice of a normal store and have never been back.

The time I went I had to go to my nearest store in Bamber bridge to get what deepdale didn't stock and the Brig store is 1/4 of the size.

I'll stick with Morrisons in Leyland. Wide ailse, quiet, plenty of stock, no queue's, no weird tills.

Yes, but probably not worth a drive if you don't live close-by. I work close-by so it's not a problem for me.

They had 24 bottles of water for £2.99 and Prudax 90 wash washing powder for £5 (a whopping £1 less than the store in Leyland). The real ONLY offer I saw was warburtons for 93p.

Plus the car park is massive (and largely empty). They could have build a really good store and shut the dump and rough store on the preston docks. preston has no tesco so they could have made a big impact

Then there's quilted toilet tissue, 4 rolls for 50p

Each to their own I guess, I prefer unbroken for eating and just zap some in a grinder to make rice puddings etc so never buy broken rice.
