Be gentle 1st post.

Filled the car with Momentum99 £6 worth to try it out. Then look at the receipt to find out that it was the same price as Unleaded95. Not all petrol stations sell it at the same price so check the pump pricing before filling.

@ Osterley and Twickenham that I've seen so far.

If you only put £6 worth (1 gallon) in, you won't have noticed much unless your tank was completely empty.

4-5p more expensive for 99 compared to 95 at all Tesco's within 20 miles of me. Very little evidence that 99 is worth the extra cost in terms of pence per mile. Probably worth using if it is exactly the same price but never seen that before.

how can this be a deal without a price? for all OP knows, the unleaded price may have been wrong hence being the same as 99 price

I filled my tank a few weeks ago (£60.00) to see how much extra mileage I got. Drove more or less the same route every day as I normally do. The difference? Nothing! Apart from paying £6.00 more to fill up.

I have tested this several times, and it definitely makes a difference in my car, a Honda Type R - it's a high performance engine which is recommended to run on high octane fuel. I've tested with Momentum 99 and regular 95 octane fuel, and I get 30 - 35 more miles from a tankful, and a noticeable improvement in performance, especially in acceleration through the gears.

So I think it is definitely worth it if you have a performance car. Probably not so much for regular cars though.

Drive a Scooby and either use Tesco 99 or Shell V Power all the time. At 200 - 230 miles to a tank you visit Tesco's often !

i always put either shell v power or tesco momentum in my motorbike.

i can definitely tell the difference between this and the lower octane fuel. gives more pull on acceleration and a little more power.

cant speek for all vehicles, and in no way take my word for it, but in my bike, i definitely get more mpg from this stuff.

This must have been a one off price error?

Anyways....it is great fuel, especially if you run a high performance car. Even if you don't, you can still get around 15-25% more mpg with it. Have a read of this: Momentum 99 benefits

And here's the report on how they did the testing, very interesting stuff: Testing info

Some cars specify a requirement for higher octane fuel, in which case you *MUST* use it. Many cases of 1.4 16v Fabias having piston ring failure, which is likely to be due to people being cheapskates using RON95. Also I remember being behind a guy driving a Lamborghini Gallardo filling up with RON95 standard unleaded once oO

IMO the report mentioned above is not particularly scientific, and has far too small a data set for each car to draw any certain conclusions. If the figures are correct though, most cars would see an MPG benefit which would more than offset the extra cost of 5p per litre. Particularly with the gap decreasing as fuel prices increase. I might give it a go sometime.

Ha yeah I once saw a guy with a DB9 filling up with Sainsburys 95 Ron! I looked at him in disgust lmao

I've seen research findings suggesting a useful addition to BHP from high octane fuel - sadly I've long since lost the link. My own car seems to benefit in performance but drivng to and from work it just insn't worth the extra few quid. Extra mpg? No idea. All I know about my motor's mpg is that it's in double figures...just.

It might of..... but me Golf Mk2 GTi is on it's last legs thought I'll treat her to 'good stuff' and the clutch is slipping after 130k miles on prob original clutch. So every time I throttle her all I get is all noise and no drive...!

Having owned a Fiat 500 Abarth from new, purchased new in Sep 2016, i was adamant that i would only use Shell V Power from day one.
For the first eighteen months, i continued using V Power, as my 165Hp 1.4Turbo engine requires a higher octane fuel to operate efficiently.

i know some people would not bother, and use the cheaper petrol, but a high performance engine requires a higher octane fuel.

My car went really well on V Power, and not being a high mileage driver, i could justify paying over £1.40 a litre for the stuff, but after a bit of research, i discovered Tescos had their own 99octane fuel called Momentum.

I was at first hesitant to try this supermarket fuel, but decided that it was worth a go.

Wow, my Abarth simply thrives on the stuff, and its a dizzy 22p a litre cheaper than Shell.

Last week, Tescos, here in llandudno Junction were charging £1.21 a litre for their Momentum fuel, compared to £1.44 a litre for Shell V Power, just a mile down the road.

I felt that my Abarth went slightly better on the Momentum fuel, and in the mid range, the car pulls like a train.

A 23p a litre difference is to huge to ignore, even for a low mileage driver.
