No free map updates... pointless

I'm unsure if Argos are correct on the no map update.

You register the device to your account. If it's the correct model you get the life time map update.

A previously used model or not, the map update isn't tied to a one time thing. At least that's my understanding after asking on twitter about the Go50.

Decided to get a 510, due to wanting a smartphone like screen. So glad I did.

But what's keeping the map from being linked to a new account?

It's not a one time code, the maps are tied to the device and the account it's linked to. If the device isn't tied to an account (or has been removed from a previous account) you can get the benefit of maps for life.

Here is my tweet to TomTom asking about a used device and maps for life.

To further add, I believe Argos say the maps for life isn't there. As a warning so they can't be done for false advertising.

I have this unit and it's a good bit of kit, live traffic via bluetooth. Only thing thats changed is when you install poi's they come up in the search but not as you drive down the road. ie asda, macs, etc before you'd see them on the maps as you drive so if you want the toilet you go to macs!! simples

Are these WinCE based?

Pretty certain you'll get the lifetime map updates. I got a refurbed one of Amazon, set it up as a new account and hey presto. No issues at all !

Has anyone bought one and got the map updated yet?

I bought the 510 from Argos eBay and hopefully it should arrive tomorrow. Will let you know as soon as.

Just received my 510 and from what I can make out it does has Lifetime World Maps and Lifetime Speed Camera Updates!! It came in a generic brown box with USB charger, USB Cable and Mount.

So, I'm presuming it'll be the same for the 610 as well (The 610 must be massive as the 510, I feel, is plenty big enough).

I bought a refurb 510 and was able to redeem lifetime maps.
But had to return it since speaker faulty and distorted.
I was suprised how heavy the tomtom was compared to my Garmin 57M
