I love the way they refer to them as "safety" cameras!

.97p is cheap but if you stick to the limit all the time you will save £££ on fuel :whistling:

Yeah its easy if you drive down the same roads every day and know where all the speed cameras are. When drivers enter unfamiliar territory awash with junctions, busy traffic, pedestrians and mulitple lanes, hearing that Traffic Camera "Beep" or "Ding Dong" is very helpful indeed.

(Ps, I despise those Damn Money Making Machines)

I bought a few of these at £4.97 last time haha?

Why do you need one of these? The cameras are painted bright yellow and have signs pointing them out. If you can't see them after that then you shouldn't be driving because your eyes don't work.

Some roads have a crazy amount of cameras on them. Your bound not to notice a few and besides you should be concentrating on the road not looking for speed cameras.

good point

still a bargain though

Kill a child not your speed.

EDIT: That doesnt sound right :giggle:

I know it will have been mentioned before, but the PocketGPS database is much more complete than the half-ar*ed TomTom effort. It is £20 a year though, so I guess this is a bargain for the TomTom ones. I have both installed on my 720, and there's only about half the amount on the official TomTom database, and many are well out of date. The PGPS ones are spot on most of the time.

Sticking to 30 on a straight flat road will use more fuel then cruising at 56 mph :-)

its a struggle to get above the speed limit in my little hair dryer clio anyway, so i wouldnt have much use for them, but for those who use sat navs a lot, i suppose it would help keep your eyes on the road ahead and not constantly scanning for gatsos

You can get speedcamera updates as well as looooooads of other points of interest at PocketGPSWorld for freeeee!

If you need a hand installing any just let me know! :-D

do you just drag and drop the file to the tomtom device? like a bit similar to istalling the old splash screens?

Hi there, yeh it's pretty much that except you need to put them in the right place etc.

Also I used a bulk file renamer to remove "pocketgpsworld" from the start of them all because you can't read the bloody description if you don't!

Not if you are driving in 5th gear at 30mph it wont ;-)

Anyone willing to pick me one or two of these up? I'll pay for your troubles.

How does this work, would it work on Tomtom 7 for PDA on Windows Mobile 6?

money making machines
they can be the opposite.....i slowed down for one and someone nearly drove into the back of my car..muppet

Oh yeh, sorry. I 100% have had them for free in the past though so they must have changed that.

The other POIs are quite good though.

Apologies for assuming it was still free. :-(

nope...fraid not. I have tested this in the past with interesting results.

30mph only works out more fuel thirsty IF you are having to slow down and speed up..and/or having to change gears.

On a long straight flat road surface in a constant test, driving in 5th gear at 30mph will NOT use up more fuel than driving on the same track at 56mph in 5th gear.....actually it'll use a bit less...the RPM will be about 1800 and as long as you can drive constantly for the whole test then im affraid 56mph WILL use more fuel.

I've tested this in two cars and had differing results in fith gear. One agrees with your opinion and the other test agrees with the other opinion. Looks like it depends on the vehicle too, although it was only two vehicles.

I've a Curry's and PC World close to me at work, I'll give both a try tomorrow.

Try driving in some parts of Derbyshire, they're still in in camouflage mode in a lot of locations.

I remember one in Scotland that was placed behind a big road sign, accompanied by a range of skid marks in the outer lanes.
No idea if it's still there...

It depends entirely on how the vehicle is geared. If you're doing 30 in fifth and the engine is labouring then you will use a lot more petrol.

56mph is about 1700-1800 rpm. 30mph in 5th is about 900rpm, and neither car I drive has any acceleration from that point. As soon as you hit any kind of incline or have to accelerate the engine sturggles like mad to pull away.

And according to both cars i`ve tried this in, 56mph in top gear on a flatish road is more economical than any other speed and gear combination. Both turbo-diesels though, don`t know about petrol cars as I wouldn`t touch one with a barge-pole.
