Google maps really killed off sat navigation system ‘.’

Nothin beats google maps
TomTom are their worst company i ever dealt with, arrogant and immoral. I followed an update and it killed my satnav, the refused to fix, outrageous. NEVER HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH tomtom

That and smartphones with built in GPS. I mean why have a big bulky nav in your car that most people leave in the gloveboxes that thieves target when you could have a sleek device that does the navs job in your pocket. Hahaha TomTom you used to be kings among men now you are like blockbuster outdated and disliked.
Need to be able to use one during any car test now. So is still needed I guess
I prefer a traditional sat nav to using my phone. The screen is bigger, has a matt finish so doesn't reflect sunlight, an you don't need a data connection for maps (I think some apps require one).
The best thing I like in tomtom is it shows the current speed of your car and the maximum permissible speed in that road. It will warn me if I over speed more than 10% mph in any road. I don't think this feature is there in any of the phone based maps including google maps. Happy to be corrected though.

Hopeless for traffic details - dramatically overestimates the seriousness of some delays and misses some worse ones! Often shows roads heavily congested as long as half an hour after they are totally clear.

TomTom GO on phone or on PC with MyDrive is better in that it only reports the more serious delays, although even that gets some of them wrong. Also far better for navigation. If you pay for it is is £15 a year, but I don't' like paying for such things! ;-)

It is there on the Phone version of TomTom (and other phone apps too). Standalone Sat nav is just expensive now, you can get the features on your phone for £15 yearly (if you must pay for it!) and only have one device cluttering the car and the windscreen.

Well.. google maps is free and its on ur phone... two best things in one package. And theres tons of features in it especially the search feature. It just has best of everything except two things, one is traffic updates like u said, the other is speed limit, apparently they did add the feature years ago but took it off relativelt soon for some reason.. probably due to sat nav companies threatening lol

Waze? It's been around for years. It is owned by Google and provides those functions you've mentioned.

Android phones are the better option. Just say OK Google navigate me to (where ever you want to go) and it will take you where you need to go in the shortest time possible taking traffic and roadworks into consideration. Maby you should consider getting a better data plan? I get 20gb 4G a month with ee for £15 + an extra 5gb because I've got my broadband with them. Never have to worry about running out
