What is invaluable is support. I was screwed over by Tomtom who wouldn't help me when their update bricked my satnav so its coldcold from me.

Well they probably won't be around for much longer. Maybe it's what they deserve.
This tit again
Good if you need it rather than a phone, but agree their support is non-existent which isn't acceptable for such a large company selling a premium product.

They also don't feel as solid as they did when they first came out.
I can't see any reason for using this nowadays
Just get the iphone app £17 a year works great

I like your justification
I use a tom-tom because I don't have unlimited data on my phone. I bought it around ten years ago though. Does the phone app work without Internet data?

Google maps is using ridiculously small amount of data I presume other apps are similar.
Sounds stupid, but I didnt even know you could use google maps to navigate with.
Still always going to be a Tomtom user though - much prefer the bigger display & its far better than the one built into the car.

Saying that, I bet Google would be better at Voice Recognition than the others

You can use google maps without using any data, theres an option that allows you to download a section of a map u require. Its called offline maps.

Download Google offline maps to your phone (it's in the menu options) select size of map etc..

No data needed, you can disable it when navigating.

You'll just need enough space to download the offline map. It will prompt to update your offline map periodically.

Google maps are good for quick business finding in my opinion anything further away use tomtom, also alerts you about speed cameras
People bang on about phones, but they are totally useless to me when working in the centre of London most days, due to gps dropping out continuously,I have tried most apps on many different phones android and apple, but still not good.My Tom Tom works flawlessly and it's nearly 10 years old!!!(XL model)the only thing now it only has a 1gb storage and its run out of storage, due to updates over the years.Think I may need to purchase a new one soon.
Lifetime maps means when they decide to end its life. not the lifetime of the device as you might think it means. so could be next week rather than another 50 years
