Now that's an idea. Shove the sword into the barrel and watch as the pirate jettisons into the air propelled by an equally hastily evacuated stream of cr*p.
Great Price - Heat

There were 44 argos catalogues produced up to 1995, then 2 a year since then...
Luckily, rather than hitting ebay, this loser. retromash.com/argos/ has pdf copies of most of the early ones.

Enjoy!

Let me know how you get on in the next couple of months, I'll stay subscribed to this thread.
Board game...?

According to …According to https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/monetary-policy/inflation/inflation-calculatorThat's about 19.70 in today's money!

Yeah I was gonna say - gotta adjust for inflation.
Wow memories

I achieved grandmaster level at the Pop Up Pirate guild
Add a bag of Maltesers, swap the Pirate for a Malteser each time and the game becomes so much better!
We had this growing up. I guess it's a boxed game not a board game but neither is buckaroo but I'd class as such.
Oh and for a while I couldn't understand why the game was called "Pop Up Piratel". I thought "Piratel is a pretty lame name for a pirate". Then I noticed the l was an !.

Anyone shocked that there is copies of old Argos books online and find it cool? Lol
Just came for the comments...

Wasn’t let down
I always wondered if there was a way to cheat and figure out which sword would trigger the pop out
I had pop up Frankenstein. Same thing but the barrel was a castle and the pirate was Frankenstein's monster. Loved it as kid but once you found out what row the trap was on it was no fun.
Don't buy, I have a feeling that this version is pirated. DON'T BUY PIRATE GAMES PEOPLE!

There is, there is always a little bit more resistance and a faint click on the slot which is going to actually pop the pirate, probably not noticeable to wee nippers but to an adult it definately is, so if you don’t totally commit to the slot it’s possible to withdraw before ejaculation, ahem.
Aaaaaaaand that’s Pop Up Pirates Wholesome family gameplay ruined forever, sorry haha.

I see! I’ll make sure when I play you have to commit to the first slot you poke 😄
Just found out that I bought this in June 2018 for £3.71
