I have this car seat. It's great and we've had no problems with it. The only minor niggle is that the straps sometimes get a bit twisted and can be tricky to sort once the little one is in the car.
We have it rear facing at the moment and I see your problem in our near future. We have a focus and a4 and the little one will be a bit cramped within the year. But then, watching the Joie videos or videos about the pros of rear facing seats, all children look uncomfortable and that it is unavoidable.

It's the Joie iAnchor that has issues - mainly recline isn't sufficient for tiny ones. The recline on the Stages is excellent. We've had 2 for over 18 months and no problems. Some of the comments are about the head-rest polystyrene breaking... a problem that can occur in any carseat (not just Joie seats) due to the fragile nature of the polymer.
