One of my favourite sources of abandonware is where you'll find upwards of 13,000 games including some big-name ones from 1987 through to 2015!

The huge interactive database of games can be searched or listed by Name, Year, Platform Genre, Theme, Publisher or Developer. If you want to re-live the good old days of computing, try myabandonware.com/ and see what you can find.

NOTE:
Not all of them will run on modern hardware or under Windows 10, so you may also need to download an emulator or create a virtual machine using a product such as VirtualBox or VMware Player
.

Is Donkey Kong Country 2 on the SNES really abandonware?

Says Abandonware but shows a screenshot from Doom

Bubble Bobble, Doom, Sensible World of Soccer and Lemmings. Like they're not enough to bash that heat button!

Is Horace goes Skiing in there somewhere? Heat added.

How has this post survived 50 minutes lol

Home of the underdogs went on for years and was a treasure if the makers don't make it anymore ......

None of those games pictured are abandoned.

I'd software have never officially released doom for free but don't think they have applied for a takedown request in over 10 years ( doom was originally a shareware game I know I'm old enough )

Great question. Maybe the mods aren't aware of how legally dubious such sites are.

Codemasters bought sensible software in 1999

I'm pretty sure the rights from Codemasters began with Sensible Soccer 2006. That said, Gog.com state Sensible World of Soccer by Codemaster/Sensible Software.

A title doesn't have to be disowned to be abandonware.

Totally illegal website, copyright on software lasts for at least 50 years. There is no such thing as abandonware.

To play doom on my 486 I needed a boot disk. If you don't know what one of those is then your too young.

Sexy replies, Graham, that's all that matters, and you've nailed it.

Great find

A nice collection of stuff but totally illegal. As previously mentioned legally speaking "abandonware" isn't a thing.

The games all work on the original platform for which they were written. They are not written to work on modern day platforms such as iOS or Android, unless you have an emulator for the original platform.

For example, to play the Commodore 64 version of Lemmings, you'll need either a real Commodore 64 computer or a Commodore 64 emulator running on whatever current hardware you have (PC, Mac, tablet, smartphone).

Abandonware is a product, typically software, ignored by its owner and manufacturer, and for which no support is available. Although such software is usually still under copyright, the owner may not be tracking copyright violations.

Great find / share
Heat for Lemmings alone

I started to hum it as soon as I saw the picture. It used to drive my mum nuts.

Brilliant, Thanks!

Trust me to post something which would cause such a debate.

Now heres a thought for you...
Do you think in this day and age such a site would openly exist for more than two minutes if it was illegal?

I mean in this day and age, what with every man and his dog suing over this, that and the other, with there being over 13,000 titles, some by big names like Taito, Sony etc with big fat cat lawyers waiting to pounce on the next victim... You'd honestly think this site would exist for two minutes???

... Just a thought

Watch out for the camouflaged ads among the game screenshots. The cheeky gits!

Just found their FAQ which makes interesting reading...

IS IT FREE? IS IT LEGAL?

We allow you to download old games for free, but we do not take any responsibility for downloads considered illegal in your country. Please try to buy the game first : GoG.com, Steam, Amazon or eBay may be selling your game. We never ask for credit card number, PayPal or anything.

Sounds a bit iffy to me....

They offer Doom 1 & 2 and Quake 1,2 & 3.

Those games are still on sale at Steam. Of course it's iffy!
