Topeak MTX Trunkbag EXP at Halfords for £25

Found 22nd SepMade hot 22nd Sep
I was after a pannier set for my commuter bike. I know a few people that have this model and rate it. This is the only place I've seen it for less than £50, RRP is over £60. Halfords are doing this for £30 but on promotion a further £5 is taken off at checkout.

Note the stock photo on the website is not the item which includes the panniers but the other pictures are correct. Picked this up today click and collect.

any idea if I'd fit my 15" dell xps in the side pocket?

Should do. I tried my mates with my 15" dell and it was fine

thanks hedgemonkey

bought some panniers months ago but never got round to ordering a bag.

Great bag for the price but it only works well with the Topeak rack.

I'd like to get this but only have a cheap`beam: type pannier (from Tesco) - so won't I be able to attach the bag using straps?

Hot as a panini!

The stock photo on halfotds IS the item, there are mutiple pictures of it. The first being when its NOT extended. "Side pockets fold out to release panniers". Doesnt mention waterproof , so you'd have to use a dry sack for the british weather. Doesnt really say how the release panniers attach. Worth ordering for the price but I'd check these things in the shop. Not voting either way.

I have used these panniers for 3 years for my daily commute (including carting my 14" laptop to and from work) and they are great.

There is a separate made to measure waterproof cover (which I have) for £14-20 (careful to buy the MTX version which extends to cover the panniers once extended).

There is a loop with an adjustable toggle on each pannier to pull close to the rack.

As stated above, you need the matching pannier to make full use of it.

example Quicktrack(TM) rack (I have this particular item for my disc brake equipped commuter:

You could buy straps and tie it on but what's the point in that.

This one is designed specifically for the matching Topeak rack.

Bargain !
If you haven't got it already you really need the Topeak MTX pannier rack to with it.
I've got both trunkbag and rack and it's an excellent system. The rack cost me about £35, the bag about £55 (so not cheap). Well made. I've had it 2 years and it still looks in good condition.
The beauty of the MTX is its a quick-release system so you can slide the panniers on and off the bike in a second. There's a small yellow catch on the back of the bag (on the end that will be almost underneath the back of your bike seat) that you press to release the bag. When you slide the bag on - the bottom of the bag is shaped so it slides into a groove on the rack and the catch automatically fastens when the bag is fully pushed in - so holding it in place.
It saves all that messing about with velcro straps and bungee chords - I can literally slide bag on and off in a couple of seconds.
ALSO - the bag is great as its fairly stiff so hasn't gone all floppy, and - if you don't need the space - the panniers just zip up into the sides.

I've done several 3 -4 day cycle tours with it and it can carry all I really need.
It's not waterproof though. There is (or was) a Topeak cover available, but I haven't bothered and use an old rucksack rain cover (really just a big plastic bag).

Absolutely fantastic bag, only problem is that it weighs a ton, if you've got a heavyish commuter its fine, if you've got a carbon bike you will constantly be battling to keep the bike upright!

No it really isn't. The photo shows the bag without the folding sides. The photo below is the product you get here.

Try scrolling through them! There is another with the panniers down.

I did! The first image is NOT the same bag as the other two. Honestly, I've reviewed it and compared it to the one in hand. That was the whole point in the post. The first image is the bag with NO panniers, the rest are the correct images.
