Hey up. I am in the market for a 17.3 inch laptop. Can anyone advise if this is a good deal or provide an alternative for a similar price but with better specs?

Not bad but think carefully that you really want a 17inch laptop as they aren't really sensible for lap use! Ok as a desktop replacement.

There is a better specced Dell on the Outlet for £403.37 delivered

Yeah cheers. This is for desktop replacements purposes. So in your opinion what one would you go for? Also John Lewis comes with 2 year guarantee.
I have the C660 115 it looks like the same generic shell as mine which is a bit cheap and plasticy (My Uni gave me mine). 2 USB ports is naff and theyre both on the left side which is a bit faffy for the mouse (if ur right handed). I'm sure you can get a much better laptop for a similar price. I'll leave it for someone else to make a better lap top suggestion

Dell everytime, it has an i processor for starters and a 1GB graphics....Just found another one with a slightly bigger HDD for £399 on there.

2 years warranty means nothing, Sales of Goods Act covers you for up to 6 years and have recently got a motherboard replaced on a 19month old Dell Studio laptop which came with a 12 month warranty.

Plus you can get quidco on Dell outlet if you go through quidco to dell and then search the dell website for Dell outlet and link through that way.

If you have more budget then you may be able to stretch to a Dell XPS which are great laptops.
keep an eye on dixons / currys , refurbs , i have had 5 , 17" lappies ,toshibas and HPs over the last few years and never paid more than £299 for any of them , and they were all new (old stock i expect )
and most were very well speced
ive got a toshiba satellite and it was only £270 from scan

So have i and none have lasted more than 18months.....They were HP. Sadly HP isn't what it used to be and neither is Dixons and both companies have appalling customer service.

Could not agree more with this advice. I bought an XPS 17 in August and it blew my socks off. It doesn't spend much time on my lap though. Most of the connections are at the rear which indicates its desktop nature. But, performance - WOW!

if you go on the john lewis site and it says out of stock for any ring up customer services and they can have one from the warehouse or another store sent to your local store, i just did this today with a samsung one but otherwise it was £200 more from comet and £60 more at tesco.

17" samsung at comet for 400 comet.co.uk/p/L…980

yes same here , all the HPs hinges only lasted 12 months ,thats why i had a Toshiba the last time , and is excellent and well made , did have to replace the power jack , but was very simple plug in job , certainly user maintainable machine and comes apart easily and the hinges have lasted so far (2 years ) , So i would be happy with ops machine at the right price .
Have had a Dell mini and desktops as well , didnt like the difficulty in upgrading simple things like the memory , and were built down to spec (very few if any expansion slots) but may be different now

Looked for Dell on the outlet site but seems 17"+ screens unavailable. Do you know of a link for the deals?
I just go on outlet then laptops and click on check availability on all laptops just browse through them. Just look for 17 or 7 in the model number.

Can link to dell outlet unfortunately.

Okay cheers. Sorry for being a pain just wanted opinions and thank you all for those who participated
No problem. Dell outlet can be strange to navigate when you haven't been on it before.

There is also a wealth of mis information on forums like this so no questions are stupid questions.

Just promise not to put Norton or any other paid for anti virus bloatware on your shiny new laptop!
I bought this yesterday @ £447 but seems to have gone up today to £459

It was the best bang for buck i could find having an i5 2430m cpu and 17" screen.

probably still worth it at the increased price.
