£67.99 @ cdiscount.. plus add something else and use 3 x easy pay

£69.99 at Amazon for ages - plus, if my experience of ebuyer is anything to go by, you actually stand a chance of getting it.

Use city-link for deliveries, so you get to ring an 0870- number at £1 per min for the privelige of fetching your parcel!

I have this from somewhere else. Great little drive, but the LED on the front is SO FREAKING BRIGHT that it hurts your eyes.

Since when was 0870 £1 per min?

Or for a tenner more you can get a far more compact and rugged drive with eSATA from ALDI.

:pirate: CJ :pirate:

agree with cutthroat!! The ALDI deal is much better!!

this seems to be the price at the moment for a 1tb unless u get a crazy deal like the 500gb maxtor @ sainsbury's for £20 which was posted on HUKD a while back (x2)
Sorry but not really that hot

Sorry but deals like the sainsburys one are few and far between.

(this model was also £50 odd last week on cdiscount I seem to remember)

Sounds like some sort of Blu-tac is in order?

That aldi deal is so so.

I have the 500gb version of that hard drive, and the hard drive does not spin down. Usually when the hard drive isnt in use for a while, it will automatically spin down to save energy, and will only start spinning again when its called upon.

The aldi hard drive DOES NOT do that. It continually spins, generates a lot of heat compared to others, and is noisy.

Amazing to think that you lose 70gb of capacity when formatted. True of all 1tb drives, not just this one.

I have a 500GB and it's died on me just won't be recognised on various computers. It was flaky when it was working too - would sometimes ask for drivers (for the enclosure) and would misbehave.

And yes, that bloody LED is bright... I covered it up with a blue-tac.

Had this drive for about a month. Seems good so far...

these are terrible. Avoid.

I have had mine from Ebuyer at this price since Xmas and had not issues with it. Does exactly what i need it for.

Again, as peeps have already said. The blue LED is stupid so get it covered up with a bit tape/blu-tac if it bothers you. Mines is.

Can you provide some details ?

i know about the sd15 bios update but for a extra fiver or so you can have this little baby delivered to your 'local' tesco direct for nothing.

direct.tesco.com/q/R…spx

got 2 of them and the drives were cannibalized and put into NAS units!!

i have this drive, its silent unlike my other 2 external hdds!
first thing i did was put blu-tack over the super bright LED. (PROBLEM SORTED!!)
£69.99 is a great price

No a drive is never as big as what it states, they just round it off to make it better, I don't think it's possible to actually make a full 1TB drive.

You don't lose anything. HD manufacturers equate 1 terabyte = 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. Windows and other OSes use 1 terabyte = 1024^4 or 1,099,511,627,800 bytes and displays it as 931.322574592 of their gigabytes.

Cracking deal, btw.

We had 2 of these fail at work (out of 4 purchased), something in the caddy goes wrong and even though the drive (Western Digital) is fine, you have to purchase a third party caddy to replace. A few similar experiences by buyers on Amazon too. I just wouldn't take the risk.

£5 off voucher brought them down to the same price, I also bought 2 and the bios is already updated so this may not be an issue anymore.

Same price on CDISCOUNT.co.uk but with 4% Quidco.

I've got one of these drives already and just ordered another two at this price, seem good drives but theres a blue light on the front thats about as bright as my car lights... still ok if covered up.

to anyone who actually owns this drive, what is the make/brand of the actual hdd inside the casing? also apart from the bright LED at the front, any other gripes with the drive? is it loud? does it get hot? what the file transfer speed is like? is there a power off switch at the back?

It's silent. I've not noticed any isses with heat. There is a power switch at the back. Transfer speed from my laptop to the drive is quicker than when on to a USB key - I don't know much about that sort of thing so that's all I can say!

thanks for the feedback, seems like a better/safer alternative than the 1TB Imeoga drive posted in another thread, yeah that's a SATA drive & slightly cheaper, but not willing to take the risk of the the firmware bug that can brick the Seagate drive in a few months and loose all my data.

anybody else know what the actual HDD brand/make inside this Toshiba enclosure?

The new stock at Tescos have newer firmware so there's no issue anymore.
