is there a warranty??

Been looking for a 1TB drive . Do they normally drop around this price in sales, voucher codes etc ? or is this a very low and very rare price ?. Almost no money ATM so impulse buy is not a option.

I know that for definate this is really cheap. I think the cheapest you will get is like £65 from tesco and in the sales they dont even go down this much. And im not sure if there is a warranty, but I assume it must have at least a year, nearly everything does. And if there is something wrong with it, im sure CDiscount will provide a replacement

The cheapest other than this, like above said, is Tesco and thats £10 more so I think this is a bargain

dont forget 4.5% quidco

is it better than seagate (brand is Iomega) - which the tesco is offering

have you got the link to the 1 you are looking at?

got this drive from cdiscount a few weeks ago.sent it back as it didnt work, was clearly reconditioned, and the warrenty seal had been tampered with.was picked up by courier 10 days ago and still waiting for my refund!

great price but wont be buying from cdiscount again

Thanks for the reply. Another Q then to attempt a saving, would they be as cheap in a few months time ?. Not an essential purchase either ATM. would only want so I could get a few more games on the PC (WoW and C&C's) but have enough console games to last me a good few months.

But also don't want to put off and off to only find I have missed the bargain. Do HDD's drop like other components can?. Will this be the norm in 2-4 months ?.

Well 2tb drives have literally just been introduced but are very expensive. There are 1.5tb hard drives as well for £100+. The reason I am saying this is that with the introduction of 2tb, you can expect prices to go down gradually. But not significantly. At most, maybe £10-£15 off the average price of hard drives in the next year

£2.47 quidco makes this £52.52

whats the RPM of the hardrive and Cache? Cant find it anywhere

Dang, slightly puts me off getting the credit card out. Might just wait and get into some of the console games before I start up WoW again. After all when WoW is back I will have no other time for the consoles so may aswell get them sorted now.

unless .........

Thing is though, I'm sure there are other people who have bought the drive and had no problems. Its just 1 bad point. And at least CDiscount will replace the drive if it is faulty. But I guess it could be faulty if you bought it from PC World as well, but we all know how bad pc world are

im not 2 sure, if you look on the toshiba website and find out what internal hard drive it has, you can then find out the details like RPM etc

thanks - I was tempted but not anymore

Too late for me! lol

If it's not new I'll be sending it back.

For those of you who wants to know what's inside the case I can tell you it is a Western Digital Caviar Green 1tb Drive with 8mb Cache.

Comes preformatted in FAT32 so if you want to format it to NTFS do not forget to copy its contents somewhere else first. You do not really need most of it (I like to keep the logo) as it is only the drive user manual and a 30-day copy of McAffee Internet Security.

The single LED is red at startup then a very bright blue when running and it flickers to indicate disk activity.

Inside the box you get a Warranty book, British power lead adapter, European power lead adapter and the transformer brick to take the normal household voltage down to 12v. You also get a USB cable for connecting to USB ports on your computer (yes it works on both USB 2 and 1.1 for those of you who need assurance over these things).

I'll be ordering at this price & returning if it looks reconditioned.

HOT DEAL!

This is hot, ordered one!

this is a good price - i really want to order but im not sure about the reliability of the caddy - i've seen a lot of bad reviews!

i do already have a 250gb version of this and its quite a bit louder than my 250gb seagate external drive. Also it has an external power supply (my seagate's is built in) and the led's on the front don't work anymore!

i'm almost certain the rpm will be 7200...

It will be 5400rpm if it is a WD green, these are eco drives and consume a couple of watts less than a standard drive, and as a bonus are fairly quiet as well.

That inbuilt power supply sounds like a 2.5" portable wallet sized drive, designed to be low powered and run off the USB 500mA, not like this Toshiba 1TB 3.5" book sized, which by no means can run of USB and needs an seperate power supply.

This is semi impulse semi need for me, if you can wait a few months, do it.

Bear in mind, 1TB drives have been at the 6-7p/gb sweet price point for a while now and it seems distributors and retailers are desperate to shed stock so prices are falling, especially on the external USB ones. (I have the Iomega 1tb and I'm very happy with it)

If you do wait, you might be lucky and get a £40ish one come summer, by autumn though I expect Samsung/WD/Seagate-Maxtor all to be flooding the market with 1.5TB drives, which in order to match this deal of 5.3p/gb will need to be £80 or less, I can't see that happening until November at the earliest? Why? Summer sales are always slow, but back-to-school sales make up for it, October everyone will be readying for Christmas, then November, the 1st Christmas approaching in a confirmed recession... should see some good deals, however the week of December Monday 21st 2009 I expect that to fall to £70 or less.

So wait a fewmonths, save a tenner, wait 8months, gain 500gb for £15 more than this deal... lol.

1tb's were at 8-9p/gb for ages, they hit 7p temporary then came back, now slowly they hit 6/7p thats why in the last 2 weeks I've ordered 2 1TB drives, prices are at a nice new low, which of course will get lower, eventually

Its a bargain but the company sound well iffy...

These wont be coming down much in price unless the smaller sized drives come down too.

so tempted.. this is a great deal. do i really need this thing? not really.

I'm going to sleep on it and hopefully it will have expired tomorrow and I'll have no choice in the matter!

5400-7200rpm actually;-) 8mb cache as well. They do run pretty cool though so good as USB drives.

These Toshibas are made in Slovakia and feel very cheap and nasty, a pain in the **** to take to bits as well. Review ends#####

Oh, the bare drives typically cost around £80 (WD10EAVS) so a good deal from what appears to be a not so good company judging by feedback i've read on here.

is there just a standard SATAII drive in there? can i dismantle this and put it into my server? (assuming i'll void my warranty, no biggie)

I've ordered this from C-Discount before xmas and it was delivered promptly, brand new with no problems like you'd expect. Quidco tracked too. I've had no problems with the drive, it's been powered around 3 hours a day since December.
I've also ordered other things from this company without trouble. Courier complains they only put my house number and a postcode on the label but it still gets here!

Ordered one, hope its not a recon or it's going back.

I bought one of these from ebuyer last week (£66) so this is a good price.
Drive seems fast enough (for me), but I filled it up to 266gb and it wouldn't let me add anything else saying the disk was full? Windows recognised the full capacity though so I am not sure why it claims to be full?
If anyone has any advice - I'd be grateful for it.

Good deal, I`ve had the 500g for a couple of years now and its never been a problem.
The 1tb and 2tb micro sd cards, wont be long before they are with us, dont know how much they will cost though

even with NEWBIE15 in the voucher code box entered?

first time ive seen this below the £70 mark

******, I just ordered a 1TB for £69 on Friday! Sometimes I hate this site! lol

Compared to previously £60 now £65 (with code) Iomega 1TB this was overpriced for many weeks But bear in mind it is only that new customer code making this good value. Also Iomega one is Seagate 32mb cache version...

Just to put my 2p in about Cdiscount, they are not very good if you want to send something back!

A refund can take up to 30 days after they have had it back so you are warned
I had to ring up and be put on hold for ages and after a lot of shouting got my refund but still took a week!

Great price for this drive though but just pray you don't have to send it back, also after the initial Cdiscount warranty you have to contact the manufacturer yourself for a replacement/fix...

House number and post code is all couriers/rm need.

Well I ordered around 1am we'll see if it's dispatched today.

Which courier did they use by the way?

ordered
