"Living in the last century"

I am borderline millenial and I own software development company for SaaS products - hardly old in the tooth mate!!

But it's like anything - buy what you need.

This TV is going in my sons room. He doesn't know what 4k is, he doesn't watch those shows on Netflix.

Most people as well using Kodi/Exodus will struggle to find 4k content.

It depends on your usage.

Your comment "Who in their right mind" etc was very blanket which honestly made it ignorant and also dumb.

Good day to you.

Buy 4k now . 4k can play 1080p but not the other way around. This is just £199 down the drain . Apple , Amazon , Nvidia TV boxes and Xbox one s / play station can make any TV smart.

Please provide a link to the 32inch 4k tv that you recommend.

Thanks OP Been looking for a 32inch tv for ages. This one looks like a great spec and good price for a 1080p set. Amazon have price matched if you have prime and want next day delivery.

So you will buy him any old junk ?

He doesn't want to spend any more than £200 on a TV, so the way I see it is that this is the best deal currently for that price range. Don't be a douche all your life.

Great buy as a brand new spare tv for the price. Usually see Polaroid brand and others for higher price without smart features.
Again. Great find

Not sure that it is the usual 5 year John Lewis warranty that comes with it, just noticed this in the text in the ad:

Availability of Apps are not included within the terms of the manufacturer’s warranty or the John Lewis 5 Year Guarantee (2 Year for Audio Visual products).

Same price in Tesco tesco.com/dir…135. But great TV and price. However it's quite thick.

If you have a sky box connected, can you record to the usb?

No you can't do that on any TV. You can only record the freeview signal.

This the one I am sure I saw in Tesco's which said it was backlit on the box which may explain why it's a bit thicker. I have returned a few mid-range led edge-lit tvs due to being unhappy with the uneven picture and 'clouding' around the edge of the screen. Does anyone have this tv who can confirm if it's backlit and how good the picture quality is? Thanks

Heated, good spot op.

Forgive a stupid question - given that this has WiFi, would you need to wire an aerial cable to receive free view? Told you it was a stupid question!!

I bought this tv from tesco a few weeks ago and had to return it for a refund. The reason why was the power light was flashing green in the middle of the night and the bedroom was like a disco. A bit of research suggested it was trying to update... not sure why in the middle of the night?. I did try and update it during the day but it said that no update was found.

John Lewis is the best place to buy TVs because of the guarantee and this is a very low price for the spec. But, I read that Toshiba TVs are just cheaper brands these days badged with the Toshiba name. Others will know more, but from a quick Google... myce.com/new…84/ But, it is £130 cheaper than the Samsung and seems to have good reviews. The jury is out I would say.

Cracking deal + five year guarantee.

You still need a signal to watch freeview channels - this can be a sky box ( satellite ) or virgin ( cable ) etc or an Ariel.

The WiFi is for streaming services such as Netflix, amazon video and any apps that use internet.

Alternative ways are IPTV services that provide all freeview channels via kodi etc.

I bought this same TV only a couple of weeks ago from Tesco for £229. In my opinion it's worth every penny. The picture is very good, sound isn't great but is fine for the bedroom where I have it. As somebody else has mentioned, the power light can be a little bright, but nothing a little electrical tape can't fix. Heat from me.

Cheers, ordered from Amazon for my daughter's room

Can you get Kodi on this

Most people just slap a small piece of electrical tape over the light.

I've read disabling automatic update solves the problem

Does anyone know if this is real Toshiba? or just one of those low end TVs with "rented" brand name?
Looking for a decent cheap 32 " TV for someone I know..

As per my link above, I don't think Tosihiba make TVs any more.

No Toshiba haven't made any TV's for Europe for some years now, maybe 5. This is made by Vestel for Toshiba, they're a massive relatively unknown Turkish manufacturer of many brands you'll know including the bottom of the range Panasonic LCD's, Finlux, Ferguson, Hitachi/......

Yes an ariel will be needed to recive the freeview channels, although without an ariel you can watch live tv via the iplayer, I've watched BBC1 like this through my ROKU box unsure if the other BBC channels are the same or other terrestrial apps never looked myself.

tempting..... will there be better deals for Black Friday?

Yes.

Toshiba... you're going to need that 5 year guarantee, so don't lose the receipt.

I had exact same.issue . Also the volume sometime went down solo.

Does this run android as its OS?

Always been a fan of Toshiba but since they changed to being a rebranded Turkish model (Vestel maybe) I've found the quality has gone downhill.

Thanks for posting, with the 5 year cover this is a great deal

Turkish , but good for spare part

It might say Toshiba but it might as well say Polaroid or any other non brand cheap tv. Pay an extra couple of quid and buy a Samsung.

It's 179 in Tesco the same tv

This is a standard clause. No manufacturer will guarantee the period during which smart Apps will be updated for their TVs. For the top end this is probably around 3 years, at the bottom end you'd be lucky if they work for 2 years. John Lewis, being a 3rd party seller, obviously wants to make it clear they'll cover only hardware defects.
I'd always recommend using a 3rd party smart platform like an Amazon Fire device, an Android box etc. As some of these will have at least 3rd party ROM support for a while.

Nope, the one in Tesco at £179 is 720p. Tesco sell this 1080 model at the same price but JL has a 5 year warranty.

Could you give a link to such a smart TV Samsung please?

if they sold this in Sainsburys I would be tempted with the Nectar offer.
