Big brand, big screen, big bargain! The Toshiba 40BV701 is no small deal.

Featuring an impressive 40 inch screen, the Toshiba is off to a winning start. Yet it's not just the size of screen at this price, but also the quality. With Full 1080p HD resolution, the 40BV701 offers the sort of detail and resolution you'd usually expect from much more expensive TVs. With a brightness of 450cdm, the 40BV701 gives vivid images and realistic colour. In short, it may be a budget 40 inch TV but there's nothing basic about the detailed and rich picture quality.

To get a sound quality to match the picture we'd recommend using the Toshiba's digital or analogue (headphone) outputs through your home cinema or hi-fi system. That way you'll get an expansive sound quality to match the picture. As standard, though, the 40BV701B comes with an 8w + 8w amplifier built-in and stereo speakers that do a fair job of filling larger rooms with sound.

Decent find, have some heat.

Anybody have links to any reviews? Cheers

Mate bought a tosh' same time I bought my hanspree over 3yrs ago, his tosh bust in the 2nd year of 'EXTRA' warranty, my hanspree still going strong
I understand that 'some' toshiba's are a cheapo made in turkey or somewhere affair...

Same price at Best Buy too. Here's a little interesting thing though, Best Buy have there own brand called ISIS, which I had read was made by a Turkish company who also make Technika,Alba,Bush and Orion to name a few. However, speaking to the Mamager in Best Buy, he told me all this without me mentioning a word, and he told me Toshiba was also mainly done by this company too, I didn't believe him at first but then I checked the the Toshiba TVs, both Isis and Toshiba TVs had EXACTLY the same shells and user interface, has Toshiba sold out? Regardless, the quality on the Isis/Toshibas were brilliant tbh. The sound wasn't so great though.

Great deal if richer sounds still do the 5 year warranty at 10% of the purchase price?

Be prepared to buy a soundbar for this, the sound is awful.

This TV is not designed or made by Toshiba. It's a rebadged Vestel 'Supermarket' TV, made in Turkey.

Forget this bogus 'Toshiba' & check the many deals for the Sony KDL40CX520. Reviews...

The above reviews are for the CX523, which is the CX520 plus HD Freeview.

Just purchased the Sony CX523 and I have to say, the picture and sound are terrible compared to my old Philips LCD. I wonder if I have a dud set, as the contrast seems extremely low even on high settings, and the sound is extremely tinny. Nothing like the reviews posted above

And what is the evidence for this completely outrageous claim?

I have searched the www, and have found no evidence for it. What I have found are

(i) very good reviews of 40BV701

and

(ii) Lots of posts by you pushing this Sony deal.

This is a very good tv for the price. Probably the best budget 40" TV at this price anywhere.

There's plenty of evidence at avforums.com/for…vs/ & HUKD that BV & KV Toshibas are made in Turkey by Vestel.

Here's a few links to get you started...

You haven't found any objective formal reviews of this Toshiba. Don't waste my time with 'Consumer Reviews' from Reevoo, etc.

The Sony CX520 / CX523 are currently the 'biggest bang for the buck' available. Nothing can touch them at anywhere near the price.

no not a dud set,i bought the same tv & took it back for the exact same reasons you've mentioned. i was truly shocked at the awful image quality from a Sony tv.

This is rich, coming from someone who described the Panasonic E3 on another deal as '10/10'. A TV slated by the AVForums Review. Your eyesight check is overdue.

I have just got the Toshiba 40BV701B 40-inch the sound seems to be "OK" just, but I'm not happy with the SD picture quality though, it's like watching through smoke, I've tried changing settings, and even changing source from HDMI to Scart, but no change so far, HD is good though.

We only paid £329 in PC world, so i suppose you get what you pay for.
