*looks into my crystal ball*

I see the words "Turkey", "Vestel" and "dooper".

I dont even look anymore as soon as I see a "B" in the model number its history

Same price in dixons and currys so wondering whether this is a great deal or not. The specs sound ok and amazon customer reviews also good. To buy or not to buy...

seems a good deal, voted hot

I have been looking for a TV since TV's came out. Shall buy.

Go out and buy a 1080p sammy or similar for around the same price, you think your getting quality with the specs but you really aren't, the software and remotes on these devices are terrible too

Some elderly relatives use Sammys, and their handsets seem great/easy to understand etc, so looks like a good move on your part.

I have just bought this tv for my 80 year old in-laws & actually set it up yesterday.
I bought it for the same price from Richer sounds. I also got them the 5 year warranty for 10% of the purchase price also
I am impressed with the tv & so are my in-laws

I cant really understand the comments of this being older models. This is a 40 inch tv for less then £300 delivered, surely this is a great deal
The plus point with Amazon is that you can select a delivery address whereas with Richer Sounds, if this is your 1st order they will only delivery to the cardholders address

If you're looking for a 40 inch tv you will not be upset with this tv

This is a good TV - for £299 it's a steal, software is a bit laggy but functional, remote is really well weighted with a metallic finish and velour underside, a bit retro but in a good way. Picture is really good, bright and vibrant and very customisable to taste and motion handling is clean, not plasma smooth on panning scenes but perfectly watchable.
Quality control seems patchy but the one I've got is great.

and? your point is?

I am pretty tolerant regarding sound quality, but a friend bought one of these and asked me to nip round and see if I thought the sound was OK. It was absolutely awful, and that is from someone who has trouble distinguishing mono from stereo. She took it back and replaced it with a Samsung

What is with all this get a Samsung instead comments?

Are you lot brain washed? Samsungs low end TVs are just as bad and can be worse.

Or are those comments meant to mean spend more and buy a higher end Samsung which will be better? Then you might as well buy a brilliant Panasonic plasma?

don't buy a sammy tv. terible sound and remote issues

this tosh is hot for me at this price. but would buy from richer sounds just to buy the 5 year guarantee for an extra £30

Where is that dislike button......

Good price, hot.

I need to see some reviews. Can anyone help?

I don't think it matters where this is made. This is a dirt cheap TV with a pretty good spec. The reviews seem to be very good too.
If you follow the likes of AV forums, there is no such thing as a perfect TV. There doesn't seem to be a model at any price that someone hasn't found faults with.

Got a similar 37" tosh. Honestly for this money I dont see how you can go wrong. Its £300 for a 40" branded freeview hd tv. You wont get anything better for this money.

Fair point about the remote and on / off being laggy, It is but this is a budget set at the end of the day,

Pros: Reasonable Freeview HD pictures, plenty of connections

Cons: Poor SD pictures, flicker with 1080p content, awkward to use, limited features, high power consumption

Cheap but no bargain. Wait for a better deal, like the £299 Samsung LE40D503 at Asda... expired but a comparable or better deal will come along soon enough.

^^^^^ and there in lies the problem... (_;)

It's amazing that anyone bothers to post anything on here anymore, all there seems to be is a flurry of criticism or instruction on what people should buy instead. Incidentally, these may be made by Vestel, but can anyone say for certain if they are made to the same specifications/quality standards? You'll find (for example) a lot of food factories make both own brand and branded products, but they have different specifications/standards to make them to. I can't imagine Toshiba just saying "we no longer care about our brand's image or reputation, please churn out any old rubbish and stick these Toshiba labels on for us please!"

Not going to comment on the TV..
But can I just say that Amazon use HDNL (Home delivery network) couriers to deliver their TVs. I have had a stupendous amount of trouble with this firm (including a TV from Amazon that never arrived). In fairness to Amazon they refunded us twice ;-)

I would go to the shops and pick up yourself.

I bought this just before xmas from tesocs for £399 and have to say impretty impressed with it. Going from my old CRT 32 to this was just mind blowing on the clarity. I was happy to pay that price and did a bit of home work before buying it decent spec for the price then so with £100 off that i would imagine this is brilliant spec for the price now.

It does everything i want it to do! its a tv not a muti dimensional door way to another universe! I watch films, i play games and i hook up to the computer.

There is one tiny little down side to this TV........

Try hooking it up via scart to phono and it all goes pear shaped, this tv will not allow HDMI in and phono/scart out! This is not good if you have XBOX 360 + turtle beach headset. The way i have managed to get round it, Bought a headphone-phono adapter from maplins for £2. That into the headphone socket, turtle beach into that then out to the stereo (are they still called stereos now?LOL)

This is the only fault i have found with the tv in the couple of months that i have had it. but if you like your sound i would imagine that this could be a bit of a problem.

But £300 for 40" screen with pretty decent picture quality standard speakers with it are OK.

Its called freedom of speech. Personally, I was tempted till I read that basically, you get what you pay for and in my case, this isnt up to an acceptable standard, regardless of price!

Cons: Poor SD pictures, flicker with 1080p content, awkward to use, limited features, high power consumption

With respect, it depends what you expect from it - as you said, you get what you pay for, if your budget is £300 this tv is still a competitive option. By the way, just because we have freedom of speech it doesn't mean it has to be used every single time someone posts a "BV" series Toshiba TV on here. Ironically it's almost a form of censorship-the more people voting it cold, the less chance there is for other people to see it and judge for themselves.

I think you might have been reading too many reviews comparing this to a £1500 TV.

I paid £400 for mine from tescos before xmas took me 5 mins to get it set up and running, then another 15-20 mins to get the picture the way I wanted it.

Picture quality is brilliant with xbox and ps hooked up via the HDMI cables with no noticeable flicker. In fact i would say the picture is pretty damned impressive. With only 4 freeview HD channels available and reception in my area pretty poor the SD pictures are pretty reasonable.

awkward to use? nope not at all once you got the channels set and screen settings sorted you will probably never touch the settings again apart from adding new free to air chanels on the tuner.

with regards to limited features this is not a smart tv, but hooked up to an xbox or ps3 do you really need a smart tv? 4OD 5OD BBC iplayer zune netflix all show decent quality pictures or at least as decent as your internet will allow.

This is a bargain priced TV at under £300 that will not dissapoint.

one minor point in the decription states 2x USB conections, this is true BUT only one allows for USB device playback (NOT INCLUDING FILMS!) the other usb input is for the tech heads.

Although seemingly a fair price I wouldn't touch anything made by Vestel and rebadged. I have repaired many Vestel products with hitachi/toshiba etc on them. They are cheap because ...they are cheap! Inferior builds and components compared to proper branded builds. It really is worth paying a little extra.

Hot for me, looks a great telly for £300.

good deal. thanks

TV performance depends on the specification of the Panel & the Processor & the Firmware used to digitally process the video signal. Picture Processsing Firmware used by the major brands require them to pay for an expensive license to use it.

'Supermarket' TVs skimp on one or more of the above 3 elements, which is why they can be made / sold so cheaply, & is why they consistently deliver inferior performance when objectively tested.

Typical features of 'Supermarket' TVs (i.e. TVs made by Vestel / Beko / Unihan, etc) include smeary motion, grainy images, unnatural colour, narrow viewing angles, sub-standard audio, awkward menus, poor EPG, a rubbish remote, high energy consumption, etc.

These Vestel TVs fit the profile nicely. Some people are easily pleased, & will be happy enough with the BV801. The discriminating will look elsewhere for a genuine bargain.

Good and informative post - Well the stats say it all oO. I must say its a cheap price for the size/spec BUT the age old saying applies "you to get what you pay for" if 300 quid is your budget then its a buy, if you have a few hundred quid more to spend, then you are probably not going to buy this TV.

dont listen to any of these vestel haters. this range of tvs are very good indeed.
