Cheap, hot deal

Very nice deal. Sadly doesn't have HDR, but for the price you can't complain

Great price but how are Toshiba TV's in general ? Are they good ? Heat from me for price alone and 4k . Don't start with the "it's not a 10 bit panel etc."

They used to be great; then very bad; now heading back to possible greatness again.....

But it's not! :P and it's cheap 4k...resolution itself will not give any great image while video source and screen quality is poor same as with HD on beginning. Any TV channel was still aired in SD but everyone wanted HD for better quality, before that finally changed people already got a new TV
But for newest consoles might be good enough

Let's hope its the good times again. And Sharp too.

I see an 80s revival?

Scotch make a comeback with VHS tape?

Re-record...not fade away

I'm looking for a TV this size or 40 inch for my daughter who wants to be able to access youtube and netflix. Every time a deal comes on here I think "yes I'll get that one!" (I am willing to pay up to £350) but then the comments change from great deal! to poor sound, etc. I'm going dizzy! This price seems to be available on a few websites so maybe not a good choice?

Toshiba in name only, and sadly not well reviewed.
But... that's a good price for it's spec

These are limited run TVs produced for outlets such as Currys, Tesco, AO etc, so they won’t be top of quality ratings, they are adequate TVs for the average person. Plenty of people will criticise these cheaper models because there is always a better model.
The only thing you can do is to check the reviews on the internet to get a general idea, and make your own decision.
tesco.com/dir…ers
Just remember, in reviews an unhappy customer will post a review 9 times out of 10, whereas a happy customer will post a review 1 out of 10, unless they get an incentive, like Amazon reviews.....

Purchase the TV an then a sound bar, or if it's only going to be used for YouTube/Netflix then buy a laptop with a large screen or a ipad?

I am just looking at this one Samsung UE40MU6120 which is about £100 more - but it says it has no Freeview Play. I am very ignorant but does this mean she wouldn't be able to receive the Freeview channels ie BBC ITV etc? thanks

I haven't read up on that particular TV but just because a TV doesn't have Freeview Play it doesn't mean they can't get Freeview stations.

If the TV has a Freeview tuner but no Freeview Play then you can watch live Freeview channels, but not catch up Freeview TV.

Freeview Play is the Freeview catch up service, where you can scroll back through the programme guide to previous days and the TV will stream things you have missed.

Any deal for 49"??

Prob a vestel set. You get what you pay for.

it's not quite that simple tho is it, tv's without freeview play can still watch some catchup stuff via iplayer etc if they have that feature

Rated 4.7 out of 5 with over 30 reviews on the AO website which is pretty impressive.

How so cheap? Who owns Toshiba now?

Hisense only have the right to use the sharp brand name in North and South America and Foxxcon accuired Sharp early this year neither have any link to Toshiba.

Interesting, I don't suppose we'll see Hisense produced Toshiba TV's for a little while yet but at least they won't be Vestel for much longer

I know what you mean. I'm in the market for a new 40"/43" TV - want something decent without paying silly money. Even after I narrowed it down to Samsung (partly just to keep it simple) I still came out of every shop (incl better ones like JL and Richer Sounds) confused by contradictory information. Frankly they're losing business as I haven't gone for anything yet!

Poor sound is another issue: you really have to add £100+ to what had appeared to be a good price to get even reasonable sound from a basic soundbar. If it's really impossible to build it into the TV then include the sound bar!

Bought a 32 inch toshiba TV back in 2007, the quality was not very impressing at all.

True! Your extra clarity helps!

@melanie_123 There may still be some catch up service built in like iPlayer or a proprietary streaming service, just not the Freeview Play branded EPG-based catch up.

Just had a nose and some reviews say that the UE40MU6120 has a sound synch problem - i.e. the voice is slightly out of synch.

To be frank, it is odd for a UK TV in this day and age to come without Freeview as standard, almost as if it is a non-UK TV that has somehow ended up in the UK. I would look for something else personally.

Been eyeing the LG 4K 43" TV that's available at £369 at the moment, was waiting for Black Friday before I pulled the trigger though.

Any reason I shouldn't go for this instead?

If you listened to all the conflicting information on here, you'll still be prevaricating while your coffin lid is being screwed down. It's £279 with a possible 5% Cashback with QUIDCO. Assuming you don't want every bell and whistle on the planet, it looks like a very good deal.

I was going to buy this hotukdeals.com/dea…059

For £10 less and I am still deciding as the stand on the Panasonic looks more better than the Hitachi

This is a Vestel TV , exactly the same as Digihome , Hitachi , Finlux , JVC and others. So the same screen , menu layouts , features and remote control layout. But this is the best price for the 43" size with a 4k screen.
Their latest smart TV system seems quite decent though for people that use Freeview . It has freeview play , so all the main free catch-up channels are there , unlike the main competitor for budget sets - UMC ( branded as Blaupunkt and Sharp )
