We've just purchased one of these for on the wall at work and it's not a bad panel at all for the price. Speakers are apparently in collaboration with Onkyo... Whether that's a simple licensing deal or not, the sound is better than I expected for a cheap 55... Heat from me

Not bad for 400gbp. Weighing up as a primary display as seldom have the time to sit down for hours on end.

currys exclusive model number, specs seem same ??
According to Toshiba UKs own specs there are differences between this model, U7863, and the one being linked to from JL, U6863. The U7863 is only 55mm in depth, 191mm with stand, has Wide Colour Gamut, has an E-LED panel at 300 nits brightness, Total Picture Quality of 2100 (whatever that is???) and has 2x10watt RMS audio compared to the U6863 being 91mm in depth, 255mm with the stand, does not have Wide Colour Gamut, has a D-LED panel at 350 nits brightness, Total Picture Quality of 1700 and has 2x12 watt RMS audio with a built in subwoofer. Currys sell both the U6863 (reduced by £30) and U7863 (reduced by £150) at £399. Each to their own as to whether the differences are worth more or less than the JL 5 year warranty.

Undecided between this and the JL, richer sounds on with the 5 year guarantee.
Dows the Curry's one have a quicker U.I? heard that on the 6863 it's really sluggish and slow.

I have a Richer Sounds were I live and want to buy this one for the 6 year warranty. My only concern is that of the slow UI you mention? Is that on the Richer Sounds model?

If richer sounds service is better if it becomes faulty go with them , I wish I did , I bought a TV from Curry's in June and it has developed a screen fault I emailed them three times they have replied saying an engineer is calling me to arrange a visit and I am a priority now but 30 days later and not one phone call from an engineer as they say a leopard never changes its spots still the Curry's of old.

We have a richer sounds local and think the 6 years warranty out weighs having sluggish UI performance, only heard from 1 YouTube review that it does.

Not sure how much better the performance is on the Curry's exclusive model if it's worthy of not having a good guarantee.

Had poor experience with Curry's after service in the past, thought they'd have sorted their act out. With that in mind think you've helped me decide to go with richer sounds model.

I have this set (from Costco), UI is as slow as most sets, slight delay, the UI in general aegonomically is its weakness imo, it’s a bit all over the place, but bottom line, picture quality is excellent and UI fine after a little time.
^ Do people not even bother reading threads any more?
Honestly why people buy these TVs are beyond me it's 50HZ vestel Pannel. The only thing Toshiba is the badge.

It's cheaper to buy a brand name then market your own TVs all manufactures outsource the low end TVs to Vestel.

It's not a Hot deal it was always manufactured to his this price point. That's why non of the big brands can hit this price point.

Samsung use vestel pannels and a custom chassis but that's not cheap there is there black Friday model of the 6 series such as 640 etc...

If you can't afford a better set go for it but please people save or spend the extra.
Anyone know between this or the samsung 7100?

Anyone know between this or the samsung 7100?

I'll try keep simple

Toshiba Positive's

- Freeview tuner
- Freeview play ( this is the UK standard smart platform with regular updates and is backed by the broadcasters and you get more catch-up and it's used by many other brands like LG, Panasonic etc...

Samsung Positive's

- picture processing is superior
- upscaling is much better
- colour accuracy is much better
- motion as it's a 60HZ Pannel

Huge negative for Samsung is no Freeview play they won't pay the license so has a free to air tuner but no "Freeview" so channels are not the same order. They also use there own version of the iPlayer which gives you the same features but Samsung are on a licence deal so like before they may remove smart apps such as iPlayer after a year, they have done this many times.

To be honest sir I would never buy an edge lit tv.
You want to go for full array backlight direct.
Edge lit are a pain to fix as well and dearer with full array i just pop off the led and stick a new one on or if the customer wants a full strip array then its a bit more expensive (you will see youtube vids on replacing the single led but once one goes its best practice to replace the entire strip set (usually 3 strips) but the edge lit ones are hard to get and expensive!
I would go for the TCL or Linsar or at a push the Hisense deal myself!

I work for a manufacture.

1) Linsar is Vestel
2) TCL are not Toshiba prices

Be interested as a someone who "repairs em" what exactly he repairs as it's a Pannel and TCon board with Vestel....

I don't think you can vouch for what is the correct ammount to spend on a TV is for some people it's there passion. My neighbour spends ££££ cleaning his car which I think is stupid. But it's his passion and TV can be other people's passion.

My point is this is not a good deal, for someone who wants to invest in a TV spend the extra and get a better deal my justification of a better deal is

1)Pannel
2) refresh rate
3) Pricture Processing
4) colour accuracy

For example if anyone reads this and they want to watch sport it's a terrible TV due to its refresh rate and poor colour accuracy.

Speak to richer sounds or your local specialist independent and get there advice you are taking £50 more for TVs that are superior on the points I mentioned above.

Haha i noticed that myself Pannel lol I thought it was maybe some futuristic holographic screen i had not heard of or summat.
So its an old saddle - always a good day when you learn something new.

Hmm bog standard yip i probably would not go that far but yeah i repair em and sometimes i canny tell the difference between one screen and another - depends on how you fiddle with the settings, i tweak all the z-sus voltage settings and y-sus board, even added some fans to the ysus buffer boards to cool em down etc on my LG Plasma to get a really toppo quality picture its 1080p but probably tweaked to the max better than an OLED....Well not quite lol but you get the drift!
I like to make the most with what i have got, used to overclock pcs and servers too but thats kinda boring and not worth the effort anymore!
Sorry omen i have absolutely no idea what any of that means
But it sounds good!
Refresh rate is how often the picture on the screen updates per second. Fast paced action, like football, can result in the picture not being as smooth as you’d like. The ball might have a superman cape or look like there’s two balls on the pitch.

I’m on here looking to get the best quality at the price I am willing to pay. Displays in shops can be deceptive because of what they are broadcasting, the lighting etc.
First of all, thanks for sharing this OP!

Mine arrived today. After half day experience, I would not recommend this to others. The picture looks much worse than my broken Samsung UE48H6400. I'v tried all picture modes and manually adjusted each picture setting. I could never get as the same feeling as before. In addition, this TV does't have the Plex app. It does support DLNA but you are losing the media browsing feature from Plex. This might not be an issue if you don't use Plex but be aware it does't have a lot of apps support.

I am not comparing different range of TVs. My old TV was bought three years ago at almost the same price.

I think this is more of a licensing deal to use the name but the sound calibration settings will be better.

I suggest heading to Curry's and listening to the sound but I expect them to sound smiliar.
