Just to add, this will play Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and latest games very well for a laptop!

Very good deal

Good buy, but why are we always stiffed in the UK. I just came back from USA with the Core i7 version of this laptop for 550 Pounds from Bestbuy and got a free rucksack mouse and 8gb stick, so if anyone is going or knows someone going to the USA it may be worth getting

Cant find this on their website, but that is a good price. Still £599 is not bad considering. And the laptop is a monster, cant wait to play my games on it!

I read yesterday that BestBuy are going to open stores in Southampton, Dudley & Thurrock (see link)

Maybe we will get US prices in the UK at last!

I think there is more to it than that lol, think of the import tax you would have to pay bringing it into the UK

Plus if the currys group of people have liasons or indeed have bought the rights to operate under that name in uk then the prices will continue to be as ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, I love the UK, because we get a lot of liberties here people do not have in the states....PLUS america is hell....but still we DO get comparatively expensive prices on similar items.

Also it is a shame this laptop does not have a 17 inch 1080p screen....*sigh*

no import tax on laptops but you have to pay vat if you have it shipped, if you or someone else brings it in you just carry it like everyone else
there are also companies in USA that will buy and ship items for you into the UK
I use a company called Aramex that gives me a New York address and ships to me in the Gulf so I can buy from amazon, walmart, sears etc and beat the ''this item only ships in US'' clause on alot of items. Not everything is a bargain obviously but sometimes you can really save a fortune

good advice, but I cant trust buying a laptop from our shops let alone ones that are thousands of miles away lol!

buying it from america will get you an american power cord, no warranty and American keyboard layout.

If this had a Bluray drive....

All you do is change the plug, 5 minute job, all power supply's are multi voltage, where do you get the idea that there is no warranty ? the one just purchased and a compaq I got for a friend all have a worldwide warranty, I have even have a new screen fitted on one last year under warranty ! Ok you get a USA keyboard but its easy to get used to it. I am just offering an alternative method of purchasing the latest laptops and other high tech stuff and have used this method for years.

+1 here, really wanting a gaming + Bluray HD laptop for a good price.

and yeah no chance of US prices even if BestBuy opens here, all the extra imports costs/ vat etc, and I suspect they may be quite closely pricing to the DSG/Kesa groups, being "competitive", only a few £s cheaper than the over inflated prices in currys/pcw etc, but still WAY more expensive than online :whistling:

Do you not think this is a good price?!?! Cant please anyone on here anymore lol.

Seems a good price for decent spec with a good brand. Surprised it's not hotter.

I picked up one of these on Saturday, good brand, price and spec!

HD webcam... Hmm, anyone know what megapixel?

Received mine this morning, very nice laptop, the quality of the hardware is superb. One thing I will say is that the amount of bloatware severly hampers the performance of this thing, that is a dissapointment. I think if I will be keeping this lappy I will be installing Windows 7 on its own!! All the drivers seem to be on the support site so thats one thing anyway!

Screen is lovely, nice and quick, graphics I havent tried yet but will do later on!!

1280 x 800

Yes.

I think if I'm going to spend around £600 I'd rather go for the Dell 1764 for £629 in PC World. It has a 17.3 inch screen, Core i5 processor but no graphics card.

Can someone tell me, if i dont tend to play games, do I really need a dedicated graphics card?

Well if you dont really play games then you dont need a massive dedicated card, but it will make a difference to the overall performance of the laptop. Plus I was looking to balance a certain amount of portability as well, the 17" screen makes the laptop rather big in my opinion. saying that this one is not small!!!

But its high performance!

Waiting until the end of March for the i5 version of this. Any idea if the £100 code will work for that as well if they stock it? RRP's £779.99. Cheers

This laptop has now been reduced to £549 at Comet now but is showing out of stock.

Anyone who has purchased one from Comet should be entitled to a £50 refund in accordance with their 14 day price promise!

I did the same thing 2 1/2 years ago with my Sony CR laptop. They retailed for around 900 pounds here and I got it from Comp USA with a free bag, office 2007 and a mouse for $999. We do get ripped off for any mid/high end laptops in my opinion.

Anyone using itunes on this Windows 7 64 Bit model? Everytime I try to sync my iphone on the 64 bit version it freezes and refuses to sync

I've never had a UK keyboard in my life - thank you very much

I once had an Emachines gaming notebook (a rebadged Arima which I bought in the USA) when I was working in the Middle East (Israel) that had a faulty HD - Emachines/Gateway shipped one over for me at no extra cost - can't argue with that.

Lots of Manufacturers actually have global warranties but another tip is to buy with an Amex card (or similar) that doubles the manufacturers warranty

The cable is worth 2 quid online generally speaking and you can buy plug adapters very easily for peanuts at dealextreme etc.
