I have this player for the tv in the bedroom. A bit noisy but otherwise OK.

Different model this is the BDX2100 not 1200, if you update it with that firmware you will stop it working.

Also it can only see hard drives/USB drives that are FAT32 not NTFS so any HD file over 4gb will not be seen by the player.

The other Toshiba Blu Ray they were selling had a better picture on my TV as well for some reason. I can't remember the model number but it had a SD card reader instead of a USB reader.

Despite the points above I still think this one is a good Blu Ray Player and well worth £37.99. The company selling them are top notch as well.

One Play.com review:

"Sound and picture not great, both jumped, strangely not at the same time. Then it broke after one day and would not open to get disc out. Retailer said it was common fault for bad picture and reliability! They had had a few back broken also."

Could be why there's a bulk load of refurbished ones..

Cheers OP, Just what i've been looking for. heat added!:D

Refurbished items can be just as good as new in many cases.
Also why should Christmas be all about spending more to show more.

just get the panasonic thats on hukd for 55 quid from play, well specced and just a far better deal

Or buy the Toshiba deal here and buy a Bluray or 2 to go along wih it. Handy for a kids bedroom etc. Extra spec is only worth the money if you'll use it.

I have heard these are a nightmare to upgrade the firmware don't think they have done a update for a while !!!

And if not? I wouldn't buy second hand products as a gift end of, just my way - not about spending more as such, after all people should be grateful you bought them anything! Just I know some might kick up a stink if their gift isn't shrink wrapped, has a blemish or two

Taken from a review at cnet reviews.cnet.co.uk/blu…78/

USB media is a slight disappointment

We had hoped the Tosh would support MKVs, but we couldn't interest ours in anything of the sort. It would play MOV files in 1080p, and we got a Kung Fu Panada clip that was a direct transport stream rip to work. To compete with players from LG and Sony, however, the Tosh would have needed to provide support for MKV in the same way those players do.
