Looking for a player in the bedroom and thought this looks good at that price but checking the specs it doesn't appear to be very SMART as it doesn't do Lovefilm or Netflix support, let alone players for itv or channel 5.

Is it purchase by phone only?

Depends what you want it for, it does DNLA which means you could stream Lovefilm, Netflix/ITV player via your phone or computer. Granted not ideal if its your primary reason for purchasing the device, but a consideration for occasional use.

Other smart features include the the ability to control it with your phone. Whilst not as good as Netflix/Love film there is an app for Acetrax for streaming movies with this device

It is a budget end Blu ray though, I am not quite sure what price you would need to pay to get one with all the apps you wish.

Suggest spend £20 more and get the Sony BDP-S490 from Richer Sounds.

And to OP: thanks for the prompting re RS VIP £10 saving on this. Had been considering what 3D Blu-Ray to add to folks LG 42LM3450 [another HUKD from Argos] without any SMART features needed.

BTW: For reference to "WiFi ready" read "can add a WiFi dongle to it" if you find compatible one [not likely to be cheap -c£40 at Amazon.co.uk]..

I got this player free from RS when I bought a tv from them. Bit noisy but its ok. As for the wifi I bought a cheap compatable USB dongle via eBay for a few quid and it works fine. It has iplayer and YouTube that's it tho. If I had to pay for a 3D player I'd go Sony every time.

I've been thinking of getting a 3d bluray for the family, but aside from this they tend to range between £79-£129 which in my eyes is crazy as a ps3 is about the same price, and in my eyes far more functional.

Could someone give me a little help understanding why people are buying 3d bluray players more expensive than the one in this article over a ps3, which does netflix, lovefilm, and various terrestrial tv players too.

The LG BP620 @ 80 quid via amazon is the only current option that supports Lovefilm based on my reading at the wknd (Lovefilm site confirms).

I have a BP620 and it also supports Netflix, as well as the usual array of iPlayer, Youtube, Facebook e.t.c...

Goes well with the 3D Blaupunkt I picked up from Sainsburys for £199 last year

No 3d, but I believe it has love film. £65 delivered. Sony BDPS185B.CEK SMART internet enabled Blu-ray Player
amazon.co.uk/dp/…TF8

re the side discussion of 'Smart/Interactive' features - which the OP's Toshiba has very, very little of - and particularly LOVEFiLM INSTANT, their website includes devices compatible with the service
lovefilm.com/how…nt/
ie Blu-ray players in the last few years from LG, Samsung & Sony.
(Used it on Sony TV & Sony BDP-S370, surprisingly good)

As I mentioned before the Richer Sounds offer of Sony BDP-S490 at £69.95 + £9.99 for 5yrs [refundable if not used] has 3D and all the host of Sony Internet 'Smart' stuff - the usual criticism is that there is SO much stuff that the Interface isn't as friendly as it might be - ie a long list.

I'll take that deal!

I have the 4450 version and I was very disappointed that it did not support lovefilm at the time, it came with about 4 apps, none of which were of any interest to me so forget the smart functionality. I don't know if it is just me but I don't find the remote responsive, I have to wave it about a bit and keep pressing the button to get it to work. That aside it does what it is suppose to do and I am pleased with it as a blu-ray player.
