No longer available
plenty showing in stock on ebay for me
yeah more than 10 available (50 sold) I assume you can cheaply add more ram as 2gb is lacking. But £230 is mid range tablet price for a fully fledged laptop running win 7 home premium, so hot from me.
Im currently using this one- hotukdeals.com/dea…106
its getting a bit noisy now and running slower, can anyone tell me if this is a better laptop overall as i really dont understand specs etc
My old laptop yesterday decided to call it quits. It went in a blaze of glory too, a couple of blown resistors and capacitors on the motherboard PCB!

I need something very basic that just works. Any obvious faults with this Toshiba? 2GB is limited, but I can easily increase that to 4. Doesn't seem to have HDMI out, but this isn't a deal breaker. Anything else before I hit "Buy it now"?
Yeah nice laptop this - seemed quite quick even with the B800 I got with it.

And if you feel like voiding the warranty, you can open it and replace the CPU with a 35W i5 / i7

no problem. Although I wouldn't do it on a ultra lowend like this particular one.

Possible, but hard to find compatibility information. Faster CPU's can also be blocked due to BIOS installed by manufacturer.

This laptop isn't all that much more powerful than the one you've already got. Yes, this one has a Sandy Bridge processor, but it is about the weakest. slowest sandy bridge processor I am aware of. It will be a bit faster than what you've got, but more of a sideways move than a real upgrade.

Two suggestions: if your laptop is noisier than it used to be, I assume you mean the fan is coming on more often, which sounds like the heatsink may be a bit clogged up with dust. Try buying a can of compressed air for a pound or two and blowing through the heatsink fins. It would be better if you can to open the back of the laptop and blow the air out rather than in. My second suggestion, which requires rather more time and effort would be to replace the hard drive with an SSD. You can get a respectable 128GB SSD for just over £60 these days (a Sandisk from Dabs or a Verbatim from CCLonline). If you can handle the work involved, you will see a much bigger overall increase in perceived performance (boot time, application start time, etc.) than switching to this laptop and it will have cost you £60 instead of £230.
Just like to add the last Toshiba laptop I had was terrible for overheating

Google 'toshiba c660 overheating'
Plenty of refurbs of these, cheaply made, cheap laptop. Left mouse button and dc jack faults quite common. Ok for the price nothing special.
Ebay says removed but cant confirm as on my phone

try laptopsdirect.co.uk

you can customise to your own preferences.

e.g.Toshiba Sattelite Pro C850-10V , Windows 7 Home Premium ,Intel Celeron B815-1.6 GHz ; 8Gb RAM ;500gb Hard Drive,etc.....for £288.97 or if you trade-in your old laptop it's £239.98.

Has it got HDMI?
You just got to love HUKD when something is posted of an item on ebay, The purchase history of the laptop is selling at like 1 every 4 minutes or so since been posted here.

Theres been a few items iv seen before that don't sell that well maybe 1 an hour but once up on here it's 1 every minute.

Save-on-Laptops not the best

The machine I bought from them was already old stock (theoretically out of warranty by manufacturing date) and, beyond 6 months old, they insisted that I get an independent report to prove that it was an inherent fault (as they are entitled to do but no-one does). Actually getting hold of someone to discuss the problem with was hard too.

Safe to say, they are cheap but cheap for a reason.....

Doubt it. How old is this model?

Not really - almost all sandy bridge laptop cpu's use the same socket (pga988B) - you could swap any cpu (in theory) right up to a 2820QM - however i7-2xxxQM cpu's are 45W so the AC adapter may not cut it, and the heatsink/fan assembly may not be able to cope with the extra heat

I swapped out a B800 for an i5-2410M, chucked on some arctic silver, and it worked like a charm - Incidentally the i5-2410M was spare from when I upgraded my XPS 17 to a 2820QM - also worked fine (apart from the heat, hence arctic silver)

Job done thanks, needed a half decent second laptop that can be used by my wife without the kids messing it up, many thanks!
Nice cheap low-spec laptop. Details here
uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/inn…se/
No HDMI
only 2 x USB2 ports

Assuming it is installed with 1x2GB memory add another 2GB for about £12 (run a memory check program first!)

One bit of advice. Put a low profile anti-virus program on it e.g. Avast. I don't know what Bulldog is like.

Toshiba laptop I got from them was the same. But on contacting Toshiba direct they changed the warranty date to the date of purchase on showing them the invoice.
no hdmi.... that sucks...
Toshiba laptops are well known for suffering from Overheating and shut downs after 2 minutes of use.

Repairs cost £65 if you don't know much about computers but if you do it can cost about £10 to fix it, I have one of them and usability wise they're great, if it wasn't for the overheating I would love it
thanks
