Nice one OP will be collecting mine tomorrow. Glad I didn't buy in at the original price now

I know it had the fill HD screen and 4gb ram. Other than that, is it much much better than the 103 model?

This is a good price as full
Hd is quite rare in chrome books

Buzzing. Was going to order one from JL today at full price - just for the 2 year guarantee.

This is the best chromebook by miles (with the obvious exception of the £1k pixel) with the full HD screen and 4gb RAM. To pick it up for just £20 more than you'd pay for most other chromebooks is a superb bargain.

If you're thinking of going Chrome, this is the one to go for.

Seems like a great bit of kit, ordered....

Bargain - was looking for a new one, and quite fancied this one but wasn't prepared to pay full price. Ordered for collection on Friday.

I bought mine a couple of weeks ago and can say it is a fantastic machine to work on.
The keyboard has no flex in it.
The screen is bright and sharp.
The speakers are perfect for media consumption.
It's a joy to work on and it manages to Chromecast a tab with a flash video player on without issue.

At this price it's the best Chromebook (IMHO).

How does 1080p YouTube video play? Read a few reports it stutters.

Runs without a single stutter

What is the trackpad link and keyboard

Google docs works offline right
Can I access files via A usb

Ordered one for collection tomorrow. Fantastic

This is a fantastic Chromebook and bargain at this price. These were pretty hard to get hold of for a while when first released in the UK. Screen is amazing.

Anyone got this and had 1080p video playback problems?

"Everything was a little small in the UI (due to the high rez - you can scale up text but some menu items are still small - I could live with this issue)
- The chromebook didn't seem to have enough power to play fast moving 1080p youtube videos (e.g. maroon 5 - sugar video is particularly bad).
I reluctantly returned it. I had everything I wanted at a very good price but it could play 1080p video (so why have a 1080p screen?!). I troubleshot the issue with different internet providers (including fibre connection) but the problem isn't bandwidth but processing power.
Shame. I'd buy this again in a heartbeat if the cpu/gpu was a little more powerful."

I went and purchased this chromebook this afternoon from JL, saw this comment and thought let me check it out...

there are no issues with the video (maroon 5 sugar) playing at 1080p full screen at all

Got one myself and it's wonderful. Easy to operate, nothing to maintain, runs smoothly and the screen is excellent, better than the one on my my MacBook Pro in fact!

damn it. i bought one for £269 from JohnLewis a month ago.

Can't recommend this enough. The OS is silky, the screen is gorgeous, the keyboard is comfortable and the battery life is great.

Got one for my dad for Christmas and he loves it to bits. I loved it so much myself that it convinced me to buy my own Dell Chromebook, THAT good.

Can you install windows/OS X on this?

No to Windows. You can install Linux though. The beauty of the Chromebook is the fact that it actually isn't Windows. The power that windows requires would be too demanding for this. But don't let that put you off. It's actually a bonus. Chromebooks have introduced us to the future. Expect Microsoft to at least partially follow suit very soon. The cloud is the future.

That's going to be the new benchmark test for this machine for everyone buying it. Did it play maroon 5 sugar in full 1080p screen?

Chrome is poison for Windows/Osx software, even on mobile its really poor, only descent on Chrome books and Android.

Nice deal.....
Ordered & heat added.

Bought one a few days ago, do you think I could refund the difference?

As well as the best returns policy (with no time limit to bring items back) John Lewis also has an impressive price protection scheme. Its Never Knowingly Undersold policy means it will refund the difference if you find the same item (with the same service agreement) cheaper elsewhere. You can claim for up to 28 days but only for high street competitors – Amazon and Play.com do not qualify. The price promise also applies to its own stock, which means you can claim back the difference if your purchase winds up in a sale, so long as it is within four weeks.

Yes, played fine in full screen 1080p. Presumably it will slow up with multiple tabs open etc...

No you can't. Also there hasn't been any Apple hardware that has used a Celeron N2830 which is used in this Chromebook. You can install a couple of Linux variants though.

I already have a Samsung Chromebook Series 5 550 from 2012. But it's been okay, apart from the flimsy build quality but that's a feature of all Samsung products. Plastic crap lol

Oh just get the Toshiba.... you know you want to.

I have this and it is very good, screen is great and does everything you need it do quick enough, as long as you understand that its not a Windows laptop!

watch out buying from John lewis. I brought on from them for £269 and it came with the screen not properly aligned and the customer services still haven't answered my request for an exchange 1 month and 15 emails later

thanks, ordered for kids birthday

This is probably a stupid question but could I use this offline to watch films off an sd card? I assume you can get VLC or similar to install on it and then watch the films on that? Thanks in advance.

Nice - Reserved and picking up today! Replacing my 2 year old Samsung Chromebook which has seen better days!

Thats complete rubbish! Windows 8 runs very efficiently on low power hardware, just look at the new atoms and 1gb ram and it runs pretty damn good.

The problem is Google has made a bloated Linux Dist and the fact it needs hardware specs as high as Chromebooks do, shows how little optimisation goes into it, you can run a full blown Mint or even Ubuntu with less problems on these than Chrome OS.

Dont get me wrong though, I think Chromebooks are good, its just Google's OS optimisation I do not think is good. and Windows is will run on low power hardware perfectly fine.

In fact Windows 8 Will run tablets with 1GB Ram & Intel Atoms Where Android Would Struggle so it gives little hope for ChomeOS running on the same hardware too.

What's the battery life like?

Why oh why didn't they stick with the Haswell Celeron?? They give it the best screen of all the affordable Chromebooks, then cripple it with the Baytrail. Such fools!

Bought one of these about 3 months ago from JL when they were very difficult to get hold of. So far I am very impressed, especially by build quality, screen resolution and performance. Starts up in no time and not at all laggy. My Mac Mini now languishes under my desk, apart from the odd time I need to use Lightroom for photo editing.

Better battery life versus performance I guess.
