For a better browsing experience enable UA Mode to default to desktop within your preferred browser.

Use exFat for formatting if you plan on storing large files greater than 4GB on your 32 or 64GB cards

Use Battery Doctor/Clean Master from the app store and ensure your GPS is set to off for general use.

Adding an older version of Adobe Flash player from their archive (for example 11.1.115.27) should really be used for desktop browser playback mode of iPlayer in HD, you may under general use find your browser can crash under instability.

Bear this in mind when using the no longer officially supported archives of Adobe Flash, this is a workaround for those that want to stream HD Playback when not supported in the app.

I expect this to be bit hot and not last battery very long considering the high performance processing and high res display. Mine will arrive day after tomorrow. Will comment how it behaves then.

According to official website should consume low energy on low demanding tasks.

Note most reviews are when the device was being sold for 300-400 quid. At 169 its a steal and the screen is so good, not sure I can go back to a smaller screen size. Charlie

Taking into account the reviews are several months old I'd expect the software updates to correct quite a few of the optimisation issues, at this price this is an absolute bargain price.

Thats a shame, dead Trigger 2 runs perfect on my Nexus , was contemplating a bigger screen.

voted hot on the price

Most probably. Most of the expert reviews are also based on full price. Im mostly browsing web and high res is a big plus point. Hopefully occational simple games wont raise too much heat either. Fingers crossed.

tempting

Really want one but the over-heating reports are more than a little off putting.

fancied a 10" one for a while and can't be bothered waiting for nexus 10 any longer. bargain

Over heating is really only a problem with playing some games for more than a few minutes. In a video on YouTube it happened with NFS but even though the device was throttling, other games were still running fine.

Would buy this over the Samsung 10.1 inch deal easily.

got excited for a second there, thought it was the Windows 8.1 one

ordered will see what its like if its **** it can go straight bk.

The main problem is that it overheats. Also the bootloader's locked. You'll have to rely on Toshiba for updates, and you can't underclock or undervolt.

Oh buggerr it. Bought it to try at least.
Edited by: "rev6" 25th Dec 2013

I bought one a month ago. Screen is great, battery life is OK, speed of the thing compared to my old Xoom and Samsung galaxy tab 2 is incredible. However, the worst thing about it is the extremely weak WiFi antenna. It struggles to pick up WiFi when all our other mobile WiFi units have no problem. Still, at that price, if you have a good WiFi signal in your house, you'll struggle to find anything similar in terms of spec under £200.

BTW, I've never noticed it overheating. As far as I'm aware, this has been fixed by a software update.

Ordered one.....damn it, I also ordered the HP Slatebool yesterday as well! Decision which to keep-this seems to have the much better screen but the HP better performance

Sounds like a cracking deal

mmm tempted this or new model Nexus 7 for similar money...decisions on Xmas day are hard

bought one ever since my nexus met the floor been looking for a new tab. have my touch pad at work but having another at home is what ive been after.

HP Slatebool? Have you got a link please?

Think you're better off waiting for the Nexus 10 price to keep dropping.

No microSD slot on the Nexus 10 and not Tegra 4. So no.

Read reviews

can i sync this with my samsung galaxy s2?

I would love this if it was Windows. A locked Android system is not attractive. Windows just works, never needs a reboot or locks. The price of this is great though. Very tempting.

Read the one star reviews on Amazon. Over heats. Poor performance.

the reason why they used to overheat and have problems was that the processor was either clocked at 1.8-2.0ghz, can't remember which, the processor was underclocked to 1.6ghz with a firmware update to fix this problem. Android 4.3 was released about 2 weeks ago which is supposed to solve other problems.

Worth a shot i say.

Definitely worth a shot at £169.

I'm after a really nice screen. micro sd, and the most impotant function hdmi out.

This ticks all my boxes

all reviews are based on this being a 350£ tablet not a £169 one.

wife just got hers today Christmas pressie from yours truly from currys deal other week ;), and I was amazed definite rival for ipad may be not as good but damn near @ less than half the price, so much so I talked her into buying me one for my birthday now cheers op

I think you are correct. When I read through some of the old expert reviews, I saw it mentioned as 1.8ghz. I thought it's because of the american model or something. This might well be the reason and they've clocked it down to 1.6. I will do a full load test a week or so. Then decide weather to keep it or not. For this price, this spec... why not...

It's a shame the bootloader is locked.

great price for the specs - from the best retailer too!

Have a choice of this or Samsung tab 3 for same money . Any suggestions on what's better?
Also would they be any good for games know someone else who would be interested (mother in law) if so. She wants the new iPad as that has been suggested best for her games but is this any good ? As over half price cheaper. Thanks , appreciate all advice.

I've read and watched a number of reviews. Some are positive at the original price point. Others not.

One thing that all reviews point to is the excellent screen.

Some say speakers are excellent and really praise them. Some say wrong placement and not powerful enough.

Some say the rear camera is good and this was before the update to 4.3 which then ironed out all the camera problems.

I think if the reviewers did another review after all the updates and now at this price. It'd be a best buy!!

superskilly

The screen on the tab 3 is not in the same league as this. Neither is the performance of it.
