Well if you want it tomorrow for the £5 extra seems like Comet have quite a few - all 3 of my local Comet's show it as available for collect

Pleased to say I got mine from play.com and checked it out yesterday on my folks FULL 1080p set and it was glorious!

The issue has been covered many times but the box you get contains:
1) A very good UPSCALING player to 1080p via HDMI or 1080i via component for STANDARD DVD playback with HD-Ready TVs
2) AND it's a very competent HD-DVD player at upto 1080p
3) AND you get a couple of HD-DVD discs
4) AND you get a HDMI cable

If you want just item 1 then the price is very reasonable. If you want to play with items 2 and 3 for a bit and eg hire HD-DVDs from Lovefilm etc RATHER than build up a collection then that's a bonus. SOME people even want to build up a HD-DVD collection as they can be obtained relatively cheaply as they are destocked by various retailers.

So yes I'm not suggesting or thinking anyone is buying a HD-DVD player imagining it has a great future but then it doesn't cost £200+ as a Blu-Ray player does AND as far as I know this is the cheapest source of this/any HD-DVD player at this time = Hot Deal.

Similarly if someone chirps up with a HOT DEAL on a VHS Deck do you churp up saying VHS players are dead ? Surely if someone WANTS to buy a VHS Deck their finding the hottest deal on one is what this forum is about ?

Like your brain.

Was REALLY tempted by one of these when they had at Play.com but never jumped in. I've got a Panasonic DVD recorder that upscales to 1080p and a PS3 so I think it would be overkill (and I'm not a fanboy either).
Shame, cos I love gadgets....
