300 x 300 dpi seems quite poor?

You won't need more than 300 dpi for scanning photo prints, or 600 dpi for line art documents, assuming printing at original size. 1200 and 2400 dpi would be used for scanning film.

What would be good is some software for a normal scanner (i.e. standalone or one included in one of the all-in-one printer/scanner/copier devices), where you could lay say 4 photos and it scans all of them as seperate images, cutting out the white bits on the sides!

Would make life much simpler as currently I'm scanning some piccies one by one.

I think you can do that with Vuescan although I've never used it for that purpose:-

I have got one of these, bought it from Amazon, Having processed some 1400 photo prints I found that like others who have left comments on the Amazon site, quite a few scans reproduce horizontal lines across the scan image. I followed the instructions to the letter cleaning it as suggested, it made no difference. Verdict

Not very good

Bought one of these and the results were terrible. Luckily, it was from QVC and it went back within 2 days.
