The processor is worse.
Benchmark 1898 against 2461 for the Toshiba

OP for the money hot but probably hassle upgrading to win10

Tosh VS Acer, I go Tosh. Not a big fan of Acer. Tosh is fine and famous for it being solid built. Depends on your taste

Just because it's quad core doesn't mean it's better. An AMD Octacore is bet by a dual core
Damn it! Item is out of stock

Which is quite fine if you don't want or need to upgrade to Windows 10. Win8.1 + Classic Shell does the job, without the added botnet.

A good budget laptop. Probably not the fastest or greatest processor and integrated GPU, but it will handle most everyday tasks fine, with plenty of RAM and storage space. May handle some very light gaming, ie. older titles that won't turn their nose up at an HD4400, but I wouldn't guarantee that being issue free.

The only minus for the price is no DVD optical drive, but if that's not an issue for what you want to do with it then it's great.

If the CPU isn't better then what has this got over the Acer aside from brand name? I ordered the Acer yesterday, looking forward to getting it on friday.
Item 351588543689 was £259.99 and is 10% off now so £242.99

Also has i3 and 1TB - it's purple though and going fast!!

There's a couple of other i3/8GB/1TB options on Argos Ebay:

ebay.co.uk/itm…853
ebay.co.uk/itm…064

The i3 beats the pants off quad core celerons and pentiums, but a few of the newer dual core pentiums actually edge ahead of it performance wise, though they're not very common:

ebay.co.uk/itm…112
cpubenchmark.net/cpu…579
cpubenchmark.net/cpu…GHz

Edited to add: Once you add the pentium HP to the your basket it gives £20 off for a price of £190, making it a sweet deal imho.

Not brand new...

True, I've had one of their refurbs in the past and it was fine. If I was in the market for a cheap lappie with i3 performance, I'd very likely get the above HP Pentium one for £190
presume if you buy a refirb and its marked then you can send it back?

I think the battery is the most important factor on lifespan of laptop. so i dont feel comfortable with refurbished as you dont know how much battery has degraded
