Quidco is rockin' in at 3%, which works out at around £9.69.

I bought this just before Christmas when it was available at £349. ]The original deal can be found here.

As for the laptop itself, very very good. Oddly Toshiba bill it as the "basic all-rounder" but IMO they are missing a trick here because this laptop packs punch. It runs Vista with ease and is a solid multitasker. The HD is big enough to suit most people's needs and the DVD playback is smooth and faultless.

For me the only drawback of this laptop is the bootup time. It takes about 2.5-3 minutes to fully boot which is above the average I'm sure and longer than I expected. This is with Vista HP installed and you may get different results with other operating systems. I suppose if you had to push me for another con, it would be battery life. You'll be lucky to get more than 2 and a half hours out of this machine in my experience. However, I'm sure this is the case for most laptops in this price bracket.

So in summary a great deal but consider those drawbacks carefully before purchasing. If you think you can live with them then go for it because it won't disappoint elsewhere. Has 2GB RAM installed but this is upgradable to 4GB, by the way.

Totally agree. Although I was the one who posted the original deal. :-D

Haha, so you did. Even at that price it was a cracking deal!

One more thing I forgot to mention. As is the norm these days, this laptop comes with very little bumph and no recovery media is provided in the box. Thus, it's highly recommended that you burn your own fairly swiftly. This is all done through a Toshiba utility that is pre-installed on the machine as standard. You will need 2 blank DVD's for this, then store them in a safe place just in case.

Hot,
just small typo - C2D T5800 has 2mb cache

I got a Tosh from Tesco with similar spec (almost identical) for £330.

Mine alos has a graphics card. ATI x1150 or something like that.

15.6" screen.

Girlfriend works in Tesco so 10% off, £300

Excellent spec for the price

That's down to the number of programs you must have on start-up and less to do with the hardware (though almost all laptops have slower hard drives than desktop PCs).

Remove some of the software you have running at start-up to reduce boot times (type "MSCONFIG" in the Run command in the start menu and go to the startup tab).

One step ahead of you there. I've tried all that already, my friend, and the effect was minimal. It's a slow machine to boot up, simple as. I still love it though.

Well I must say I'm surprised at the time your machine takes.
I have an older Toshiba model L300 16L a Core Duo T2390 with 2gb, and I've just timed its bootup. It's running vista premium and it took 1min 15secs to fully boot up with sidebar.
So not sure why yours is so slow.

It's a mystery isn't it, mate? If you have any other suggestions let me know, perhaps I'm missing something. Last time I timed it, it took 2 mins 50 secs.

Got a similar L300 16L for a few weeks now after the Carphone warehouse £249 deal, tis a good laptop

I have a Toshiba Satellite A200 T5500 Core 2 Duo, 1.6ghz which came with 2gb ram, 300gb hd, dedicated Nvidia graphics, 15.4" screen which I bought in August 2007 and paid £799 for it!!!!!!!!!!!! The build quality is fantastic, and so it should be for the price lol.

£329 for the op's post is a fantastic price, tut, how things drop in price eh. Voted hot.

Good price for a reputable laptop maker like Toshiba.

No HDMI?

B0rker;4974992

No HDMI?

There was a Compaq identical to the Toshiba I got with HDMI and a 5-in-1 card reader, again for £330. I don't thinkit was a dual core though so I went for the Tosh.

Definitely worth having a good look in Tesco.

I don't particularly like Tesco but they have some pretty good laptop deals.

This deal keeps going up a bit then back down a bit. Why are so many voting cold? It's excellent value for money.

Thanks for the info but if it was not C2D I would not buy it erither.

I have a half decent lappy, which i am using now, but want to upgrade to C2D with more RAM and a bigger HD.

+1 rep.

Avira, I think. Oh wait no, avast! The one with the silly voiceover lol. ("the virus database has been updated")

I uninstalled the trial software that was pre-installed, I think it was Norton. No use for that bloatware on my machine thanks very much!

Andy, too bad you are Welsh, you bring down my country's average IQ.

1. This is a really good price for an entry level model with top level specs in Core2Duo and good size HD. It is a reputable brand, from a retailer that won't go bust, meaning you effectively have a cast-iron 2 year warranty (EU regs).

2. It is nonsense to say 2 gig won't run Vista properly, I am typing this on a basic Centrino with Vista Ultimate with 2gb memory, 17 screens open etc etc, it seems to be working faster than my fingers can work off my irritation at you.

3. I notice you didn't suggest an alternative entry level with 4 gig at the same price, because you won't find one.

4. If you think you need 4 gig so you can stay up all night and play video games in your bedroom in Mum and Dad's house you can just pop out the memory and put in 4 gig. The computer will still be a good deal. But maybe you don't have a screwdriver up there in your bedroom?

5. What I really object to is your negative rating of someone who goes to the trouble of finding a good deal and posting it, as well as your totally wrong information about what are standard running requirements for a current computer and operating system. The latter will mislead some people and have them buy a computer that is more expensive than they need.

6. Too bad you didn't learn to spell at school, 'totoise', 'gona', etc etc.

Next time think before you jeer...

just been to my local morrisons in erith, kent and sales person stated that there is only 7 available left in the whole country as its now discontinued so the hut is going to be the best option i think?

also now the hut are no longer selling this laptop either?

true with xp but not with vista. mine is as fast now as the day I got it over a year ago. vista does an amazing job at staying optimized unlike xp

What store was this ??

ARGOS stock the Toshiba L300-1AQ at that price. A bit steep £399.99 considering you could get the L300-19Y for £358 from Comet at Christmas

Rothwell, store quoted £399.
