Pretty awesome price for this specific model of 3TB hard-drive from Toshiba. However, it's not that awesome in the grand scheme of things, as you can buy cheap non-comparable rubbish from eBay and save a few quid... which may be preferable for some people apparently. So don't take my word for it about this being an awesome price and buy based on my ??reputation?? alone, I don't want people getting all bent out of shape then suing me for misrepresenting this deal as something it isn't.

But you've gone and given an example of something else, presumably to try and demonstrate that the price isn't "pretty awesome" that has a poorer warranty and a different make.

Presumably if I posted a great deal of a quality car for a bargain price you'd post one of a cheaper car that's a different make to try and say "but it's a car too"?

I don't see a claim from the op that theirs is the cheapest 3TB drive available or cheaper than eBay or anything so I don't see why posting a link to a vaguely similar item on eBay is worthwhile?

As has been suggested, maybe posting your item as a deal might be more worthwhile?

Great price. Are these rebadged Hitachi's?
Cheers, ordered.
This one is only £56.96:

... so why is this post such a hot deal?

Probably because mediamax use refurbed western digital drives. So b grade device. Also the Toshiba drive is faster and is ranked highly on userbenchmarks.com. Only the latest barracuda drive is faster.

I think you must be mistaken, this is a new item.

I think you need to research mediamax. They use refurbed western digital products. It is not new.

It is a decent price for the 2nd fastest 7200rpm drive. Think you need to chill out.

It's not the same product. It's sold on eBay. It's Mediamax. 6 months warranty.

Why not post your deal up separately and see how much heat it gets?

You have to look into things a bit more. You need to think about the item in question not just the price. The retailer. Warranty. Item condition, etc.
You're seeing 3TB HDD Vs 3TB HDD.

Clearly you know nothing about the reliability of the Toshiba rebadged Hitachi drives, this is a pretty awesome deal
Also, you're welcome to the people that gave thanks and actually appreciated the find.
I bought a couple of 3tb toshs back in 2013 they cost me £75 each, prices on IT kit ain't dropping like it used to
Nice! Below the magic £25/TB! If this deal is still around come payday I'll buy a few.
Paid £69.99 each (same special offer at Amazon) for a pair of these just over a year ago. Great drives and have not missed a beat in my 24/7 Plex server.

Awesome deal at an awesome price. Eat my heat, othen!
Why would anyone buy a drive that's £13 cheaper with a fraction of the warranty.

Presumably the reduced warranty is a reflection of their confidence in the product, no?

I've got one of these drives been in my server and my N40L microserver as part of a RAID5 array and a storage spaces with parity array it's worked flawlessly since purchase over the last 8 months or so.
Excellent deal. I have (literally) just installed and tested this drive's smaller 2GB brother - really good performance figures.

that is because Brexit has weakened the value of the pound so prices are actually levelled off or rising on most PC gear because none of it is manufactured in England

I'm serious I read it in some article on hexus about the price of the new AMD processors and GPU's in the UK, and it makes sence cos the pound has been devalued to almost equal value to the euro and the trend is likely to continue for some time because in general the eurozone economy is attracting a lot of investment that used to go into GBP on the fourex as it seems consensus with foreign investors see the euro as slightly undervalued and it is also viewed as more stable than GBP

mate i am sure it has had an effect but we are talking about the hdd before brexit stuff as well, in fact its the first time it has gone down in price for over 3 years so well before brexit was even a term, though if brexit hadn't happened would the price have gone down further? we will never know..
some have said tis drive can be noisy. Mine was, but I added some absorption foam underneath it and its take the viration noise out of it. Good fast drive,
Good price but statistically (at least in my house) the Tosh drives have had by far the worst failure rate (I've 20-30 - about 5 have failed). Personally I'd rather buy the similarly priced Hitachi's off Ebay with far less warranty but everyone to their own.
Nice
Very tempting, i've got a 2tb version of one of these and its been great.... but need to replace an older 1tb with something bigger!
thanks for this my second one...
I only picked two up the other day and they're lower still! Effin amazon trying to undercut...not by much mind but a stonking deal nonetheless.

Getting back on topic, using a simple Raid 1 array and getting upwards of 300MB/s transfers. Get them while you can.

Pops
pretty awesome
