Fast 7200rpm 3.5" internal harddrive (to mount in a PC or NAS, but for a NAS which remains powered on 24/7 some other drives are more suitable because of lower energy use).

Lowest price it has been according to camelcamelcamel.

Very fast drives, I have two P300 2TB's as the parity drives in my home server. It's a shame the warranty is only 2 years, still a good deal though.
That is an amazing price for so much storage
Yea have to say that's a cracking price for 3tb. Heat added
I have x3 of these in a Fractal Design R4 case, good drives, fast, reliable so far after a years use, and I can't hear 'em.
heat added.
Had one die after 9 months of low usage, but had another which is pushing two years. Check the warranty dates as they are sometimes from the date of production.
WD is the best one hard drives as for the rest especially Toshiba is terrible - performance wise! I managed to burn (stop functioning without a reason, last one was only two years old) 4 x Seagate hard drives in last 10 years

Warranty in the UK is always from the date of sale.

Different experience from me, found every other drive OK (ie. Seagate, Samsung, Hitachi and Toshiba) but WD i've had a whole pile of them fail unfortunately. Furthermore, i've also found their customer service to be pretty bad but haven't tried CS of other brands.

Always been the reserve for myself - WD have always failed miserably for me. Although If you're not using huge volumes of HDD's (100s+) ... it's hard to draw any meaningful conclusions.
Ive got one of the 4tbs in a media server streaming steam games. Works well even when me and my wife are both loading over gbe

I haven't noticed any issues with WD customer service, I have managed to replace the WD hard drive after 3 years as I do believe they do have 5 years warranty.

In my opinion two proper makes of hard drives WD and Seagate but from my experience prefer WD, the rest like Poundland quality products

If it's not WD or Seagate it's poundland quality? Thanks for the comment.
Hitachi, Toshiiba and IBM best hard drives in my experience.

Seagate lol
Just google 7200 Barracuda firmware failure - and it can happen at any time rendering the drive useless unless you know how to program the firmware (yes that is what that mysterious 6 or 8 pin block is next to the sata connections.
I had a Seagate go belly up - returned to Seagate and the so called refurbished drive that was returned failed within 1 month.

Pc or laptop i repair (70-80%) with a disk fault you can bet Seagate is the drive in it!
If you want further proof you only have to look at your Tivo box or Youview Talktalk pvr - they all use WDC/Seagate and are legendary for the number of failures over a short period of use!

I've tried to return a drive multiple times to them, it's not the customer's fault if they fail and they want to charge me for UPS shipping which is half the cost of the drive + I get a refurb drive in return? Why not just return it back to Amazon for free and they'll give you a complete new drive with new warranty. It's appauling that they make their customers go through the process.

In my opinion, Seagate has improved since major failure not too long ago. I own some of their drives and have not had an issue since day one (fingers crossed) however, WD i've had many issues with. I repair laptops and PC's for family, and myself have owned an Acer Aspire E1-571 with a WD Blue Hard Drive (in 2012) that drive not only failed once, but all replacement drives failed resulting in a good 5 hard drives before retiring the laptop in 2014/15. It could just be my experience but it always seems to be the laptop drives with all my repairs which is why I can no longer recommend anything but an SSD in a laptop since it's a machine thats meant for transporting around which for a mechanical hard drive is going to almost definitely will cause it to fail easier.
Have some heat!!
Heat added. Great price for the size.

Wd have good advertising but their low end green drives are used in pvrs etc and they only run 5400rpm which is one of the reasons the Virgin Tivo 500 is so slow lol

You can have both - My fave laptops DELL D630 and D830 I just cannot give up has both.
Very reliable as they often sit next to a hot car engine when tuning and doing OBD diagnostics for customers.
64Gb Drevo SSD £25 for the OS
500Gb Hitachi standard laptop HDU £25 for the backups, progs and data storage on a removeable cd/dvd cage.
Thats the best setup for a laptop or a Server or Desktop these days.
My Dell Poweredge 2950 Vmware esx5.5 server actually runs the os from an internal USB stick!
Some even add a third SSD for the swapfile and pagefile.

Lol Seagate failed on me so bad I lost all my memories with loved ones and the customer service is really shit. Seems to be a common for their external drives as the drives suddenly won't appear anymore. My Toshiba and WD ones have served me well.
Who's voting this up so high. It's less than a pound cheaper than its been for a while. Total nonsense.
Quite a good price but too small for me, I need at least 4TB, but they are £108.54! Why?, 5 and 6TB are also stupidly priced

No, I will need at least 2 x 4TB for the sata connectors, and eventually more for the third server
Could i use this in a Youview box???
Good price. Have been waiting for the E300's (5400rpm) to get to this price (under £67.).

No the Talktalk Youview boxes have a routine in the linux Kernel that checks for a 320gb hard drive - I have tried 500gb and even 160gb drives perfectly cloned from the original but it MUST have a 320gb hard drive.

If your drive has failed you will need an image of the OS as it resides on one of the 5 partitions as well as swapp file, pvr recording catchup partition, movies partition so you cannot even just swap in a 320gb hard drive and pray that the download via internet repair will work - IT DOESNT!

theinquirer.net/inq…ing

If your Seagate drive makes an unusual squeaking noise every now and again but the SMART tests say its ok then back it up immediately and prepare for a disaster - its not just confined to the older 1TB drives i have 3 2tb drives in my workshop that failed with firmware failure even though the drive platters are ok!

It is actually possible to recover your drive yourself if it has failed with either firmware or stuck heads or board failure - bad cluster failure is another story however.
There is a website you can send your drive to and they replace the controller board which could get all your data back.
You can do it yourself by buying the board but depending on the drive you may need to desolder the bios chip from the old board and put it onto the new board - the website charges you for this!

Download ACRONIS drive monitor - its free and is the best little app you will ever download - it will tell you when your drive is about to fail well before you will notice anything!
