99% of Sky channels are broadcast at 576p, Sky HD is not 1080P but only 1080i (Don't know about Virgin). This tv will display pictures of equal quality as a comparable 1080P tv, unless you are using a PS3 or Blu-Ray and even then, unless they are side by side, you would not really see a mind blowing difference.

In fact, my 720P Panasonic Plasma handles standard def Sky better than my friends, much more expensive, LG LED 1080P LCD.
